Chapter 23-Present Time :D

I woke up on Sunday with another headache. I sat up in my bed and looked around. I was surprised the police weren't at the school because of reports of manslaughter. Either way I got out of bed, got dressed and stepped out of my room to-

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

"AHH JESUS CHRISTLER" I yelled as I fell to the ground due to shock."Happy late birthday Zena!" Milinda announced as I composed myself after almost having a heart attack. I slowly processed what they said and answered with a confused "birthday?"

"Yeah! You said you were born on October 10th and since we didn't really get to celebrate yesterday, we decided to do it today" Scarlet said with a smile. I got up and looked at them a bit confused. "Birthday...what's a birthday again?" Lin chimed in "God, I thought you were smarter than this. It's when you celebrate your own birth." Milinda tilted her head "Wait! You don't know what a birthday is?!" I shook my head and said "oh no! I know what a birthday is. I just forgot for a second, you know I just woke up and all." I laughed nervously. "So, you wanna open your presents?" Scarlet asked excitedly "Presents? As in presents, plural?" I asked, getting a bit excited. "Oh, course dumb dumb!" Scarlet said as she jabbed my arm. "Come on, let's go! Present time present time open a present see what's inside!" Milinda started singing as she paraded to the living room. Me and Scarlet followed and there were 2 presents on the kitchen table. They were both pretty small but a present either way. "Here open mine first, open mine!" Milinda said, bouncing up and down. I tore off the brightly colored paper to find a fluffy, white, weighted blanket. "I thought that you might like it since you have trouble sleeping at night! They really help me sleep so I thought you would like one too." Milinda said smiling like a kid on Christmas. "Aww thanks Milinda!" I said unraveling the blanket and wrapping myself in it. "And here's my present, I tried my best, but I don't think it came out too good-" I opened the small bag to find two things inside. The first thing was a necklace with a crystal attached to it. I held it up to the light and it was almost transparent. "I tried to make it look nice and I really don't know if it'll work but there's only one way to find out. Come on put it on!" I was confused but trusted Scarlet and put on the necklace. "So... How do you feel?" Scarlet asked to take out a notepad. "I mean I'm a bit hungry but that's- wait." I stood there for a second and then whispered "Lin? Aren't you going to make a snarky comment about me or something?" No response, for once it was finally quiet in my head. I stared at the necklace Scarlet had given and it had turned from clear to a light shade of blue. I looked back at Scarlet who was patiently waiting for a response. "I can't hear Lin anymore."

"YEA!" Scarlet yelled triumphantly "I knew it would work!" I smiled and hugged Scarlet. "Thank you" Scarlet pat me on the back and said "No problem bestie"

I sat in my room curled up in my weighted blanket on my bed enjoying the silence of Lin not existing. The little bag the Scarlet gave me was on my desk, it was a nice bag, and I didn't want to throw it away just yet. It was laying tipped over on its side on top of the desk. I looked at it and saw something else inside it. I got up from my cocoon and went to investigate it. I looked inside and grabbed whatever was inside the bag. It was a light blue and black switch blade. It was very pretty, and I pressed the button that released the blade to look at that as well. The blade came out faster than I expected and stabbed the side of my hand. "Ow, shit!" I yelled after being assaulted by the switchblade. I expected Lin to come back out of whatever void she was in to be in my werewolf form, but something weird happened. I got a really bad headache out of nowhere and went to go get a band aid from the bathroom. Walking there it felt like something was off, but I didn't pay attention to it. I got to the bathroom and got a band aid. I put the band aid on and was about to leave when I saw myself in the mirror. I had to do a double take because I didn't see me, I saw someone completely different. It wasn't my reflection; it was Lin's

I booked it out of the bathroom to Scarlet's room and busted down her door. "Yo Scarlet!" Scarlet jumped a little, and looked up from her phone "What you want?" I paused for a little bit to catch my breath and finally said. "Come look at this." I led her to the bathroom to show her my reflection. She looked really fascinated by it and finally said "I don't see anything; all I see is your reflection." Lin in the mirror burst out laughing even though I couldn't hear her. "And also, your shoes broke." Scarlet said pointing to my paws that I didn't notice somehow. I looked down and said, "huh I thought it would do a bit more than that but alright I guess" Scarlet did a double take and said, "wait what?" I started taking off my destroyed shoes and said "yea I got stabbed by the switchblade you gave me. Usually if I get injured like that I half change but guess not." Scarlet's eyes lit up as she said "It was the necklace I gave you! It can reduce the intensity at which your werewolf powers are released!" I looked up at her and said, "Could you translate that to English?" Scarlet sighed and said, "It makes you not shift as much as you normally would if you get injured."

"Holy hell Scarlet you went all out, thanks!" Scarlet smiled and said, "oh yea and about that knife I gave you, you said you got stabbed by it and didn't shift?" I stood up and said, "Nope all I got was toe beans, man I really liked those shoes too." Scarlet stared off into space for a second and finally said "What if there was a way for you to control how you change whenever you get hurt?"

"Now that's a plan!"
