Chapter 27: Calm Before the Storm, Chaos still Ensues

Dante's Group

" Do I really have to sit on the back? " Aqua complained as they were riding on a carriage. " You lost the bet you know? You really have the worst luck than all of us. " Dante jested as Aqua puffed her cheeks. " Don't worry, I'll switch with ya later. " the devil hunter chuckled as Aqua just did as what she was told.

It was a peaceful day at the dunes, a fair day for all travels to come and go. The scenery was worth being at the luggage area and everything seemed fine. Everyone in the party was enjoying the scenery... Well, until some killjoy said:

" Lizard Runners! They're coming towards us! " a caravan guard said as the carriages stopped. " Dear customers! Get out of here! The guards will protect you! " the carriage drivers said to the passenger.

" Nah. We're gonna fight. We need to help and besides, look at them. They're just asking for an open season. " Kazuma said and smirked. " You really gained a lot of confidence after training with Dante. Either way, we'll go too. " Megumin said as all of them went out the carriage.

" Okay! So, what do you have in mind? " Lady asked as Aqua laughed haughtily. " This is were my knowledge gets put to use! Y'see,-

" It's Lizard Runner mating season right? We don't really need to kill all of them. We just need to kill the Lizard Princess and the Lizard King. " Yunyun said as she cut off Aqua who became statuesque and looked down. ' A-am I not that useful now? ' she monologued as Lady thought of an idea. " Dante, Kazuma, and you two Archmages, go somewhere in a safe firing range. Aqua and Darkness will follow me. " the Devil Huntress said as the two separated groups.

" I think I know what they want us to do. See the orange lizard there? We kill it first, then the king comes next. I-if possible, can we blow up the rest of the lizards? " Megumin asked as she was twitching from the thought of casting Explosion on the lizard runners. ' Oh crapbaskets. She's itching to make an explosion again... " Kazuma said as Yunyun and Dante facepalmed.

" Welp, you do what you want but... Make sure not to kill our allies. " Dante said as him and Kazuma readied their range weapons.

" Here they come! " the caravan guard said as the mercenaries tried to halt their advance, only to be trampled and wounded. Two Force Fire were flared up the sky as the group of Runners stopped their tracks, now aiming for Aqua and Lady as Darkness stood in their way. ' Ah the Lizard Runners trampling on me like dirt, what does it feel~... ' Darkness thought lewdly as the Lizard Princess was about to run her over, only for Kazuma to hit it with an arrow to the left temple, making it twitch and keel over before dying.

This had made the lizards stop their tracks on Darkness, turning now to Dante's group roaring. With the Lizard King leading the charge, every lizard runner came along and tried to assault the group. Dante let out a chuckle as he took out Ebony and Ivory, once they were at a good distance, he uttered out:

" Jackpot. "
