"The world is full of monsters with friendly faces and angels full of scars."

"I could have died or at the very least blown the entire operation," I nearly yelled as I spoke over the phone to Obi-Wan after telling him everything that happened. But since he was my superior, I did my best to keep my voice in check, "I was barely there for ten minutes before they walked in, you said he was busy."
"I know, but when Connor told me he left and was headed in the direction of the club, it was too late to contact you," Obi-Wan sighed heavily, "But I knew you'd get out of it okay, and you did. And you didn't get caught either so that's what's important."
Of course that's all he has to say.
"I still assaulted him Obi-Wan. I left him bleeding on the ground all because you wouldn't listen to me when I said going there wasn't a good idea," The guilt was eating away at me, and all I kept seeing was the image of him on the floor with his blood trickling down his face.
I'm glad I got away without being killed or recognized, but I hated how I did it. I'm not even sure just how okay he is or if I caused him to lose his eye or something.
Obi-Wan huffed, "It's not that big of a deal, he deserved a good smack for everything he's done."
His words shouldn't have angered me as much as they did, "Which is what exactly?" I snapped, "Money laundering? That hardly calls for violence, he's not physically hurting anyone."
Obi-Wan was silent for a few seconds, but I could still hear his quiet breathing through the phone, "It's good that you're building these friendships to make your job easier, but don't lose sight of the kind of people they really are. You forget, a dead body was found just a few days ago in the alleyway connected to his bar."
I groaned, rolling my eyes, "But I already told you I was with him-"
"And what about the others?" He cut me off, "His sister, Firmus Piett, Aaron, and even a few of the bouncers — none have solid alibis and they could have easily acted on an order."
I tightened my grip on the phone in frustration. If someone told me in beginning that when I accepted this job I'd be here, defending my marks against my superior, I'd say they were fucking insane.
Yet here I am.
And I know that they're not the best people to exist, and they're doing things that go against my very livelihood, but I know in my heart that they're anything but murderers. Which is one of the worst crimes in my book, so I don't take it lightly.
I sighed as I lightened my grip on the phone and calmed my nerves, "I'm not trying to say they're good people, and this in no way affects how I plan to do my job. I just don't think they're killers sir and shouldn't be labeled as that," I said, hoping he would trust my word, "There's an actual killer out there and I think you should focus on finding them before another body surfaces."
