It was almost four in the morning and I was still wide awake. I knew very well I wasn't going to get any sleep tonight, but there was one benefit to that.
I was laying in Anakin's large King size bed with his arms wrapped around me as he slept, quietly. It took him awhile to sleep as well, and he hadn't said much when we laid down, he just stared up at the ceiling in silence.
I knew it was because he was thinking about what had happened with Clovis. I made a horrible situation even worse and it surprises me that he was as calm with me as he was. I don't know what reaction I was expecting, but calm definitely wasn't it.
I turned my head to look at his sleeping face and breathed a sigh, "What's wrong?" He asked in a tired voice as he slowly opened his eyes, locking them with mine.
His response took me by surprise, "Oh, I thought you were sleeping." I whispered.
He sighed as well and sunk his head deeper into his pillow, "No, I almost never sleep, something is always on my mind," His voice was low and sad, and it hurt to know that the way his life is is what's causing this ache within him, "And you didn't answer my question, what's wrong?"
I breathed a dry chuckle that wasn't a humorous laugh, it was a laugh one gives when they are minutes from losing their mind, "Do you really need to ask?"
He half-smiled before leaning forward and kissing my forehead gently, making my heart race, "Yeah I guess it was a stupid question," He brought his head back once more so our eyes could meet, "I know you feel guilty; taking a life isn't an easy burden no matter how shitty of a person they are. But you did the right thing by Ahsoka, she could have died if you didn't react. And I will always be in your debt for that." As he spoke, he brushed his fingertips along my cheek, doting upon me in a time that it's needed.
"I didn't mean to kill him though. I-"
He cut me off by pressing a soft kiss on my lips, but it only lasted for a moment before we parted, "You did the right thing." He laid his palm against my cheek, a gentle gaze in his eyes, "Say it, say 'I did the right thing,'" He whispered as he rubbed his thumb against the skin under my eye, "Please."
With a tight feeling in my chest, I mumbled, "I did the right thing." Saying it out loud this way was actually more comforting than I thought it would be. He did have a point too, it was Clovis or Ahsoka, and the choice was obvious.
He smiled, kissing my forehead once more, "Nothing that happened tonight is on you, okay?"
I breathed a sigh of content, "Okay."
"Come here," He grabbed me and pulled me on top of him so I was straddling his waist, "I love you." He reached up and held my face in his palms before bringing our lips close together.
"I love you too," I said as his crystal eyes made my heart melt.
He pulled our lips together and this kiss felt like our very first one. Full of love and devotion, I had only wished that it lasted longer, "Try not to worry, everything is going to be gone and I would never let anything to you."
I nodded as I pressed our foreheads together, "I'd never let anything happen to you either Anakin."
He smiled as he caressed my cheek, "And I know you have a lot of questions, and I promise you I'll answer them. But when the time is right."
