"Damn it," I mumbled to myself after losing a grape, which seemed to have rolled under my couch after my failed attempt to catch it in my mouth.
To say that I was bored would be an understatement. Every harrowing minute dragged on tirelessly, and the steady ticking of the clock that sat above my television only made it seem slower.
It was almost as if I really was at school, sitting in a desk and staring at the clock with my bag already packed; ready to go. My eyes following the red second hand of the timepiece with one foot out into the walkway, anticipating that sweet taste of freedom.
Except I was sitting on my couch and instead of eagerly awaiting freedom - I'm waiting to hear something interesting on the laptop I have sitting on the coffee table that is transmitting every sound from Skywalker's office. Or for this day to end so I'm one step closer to being back in that club. I could use a little action and something to keep me busy, I'm not used to being alone or unoccupied this much - I'm used to being in the field or with Connor.
So to keep myself from going utterly insane — I've been spending the last few hours or so playing a child's game, and losing food under every piece of furniture in this lonesome apartment.
I also may have scratched my eye with a corn nut due to a horrible toss and bad coordination. I'm not the type of person who should be left unsupervised this long.
I sighed, deciding to forget about it and drew my attention back to the laptop on the coffee table. All I could hear, and all I've been hearing for the past few hours, was the tapping of the keys on his computer.
He's only had one other person come into his office today and that was Piett. And the only thing they discussed was an issue with one of the liquor shipments, and even that conversation was barely five minutes.
I had hoped I'd get something that would be of interest to us, but that will only happen if he actually talks about his illegal escapades in ear shot of my trap. But then again, maybe he's just too smart for that; he's been evasive for years, so I wouldn't put it past him to be that cautious and not talk about it in a place he doesn't feel a hundred percent secure. Which the only place he probably would consider secure is his home. And unfortunately that's not a place that's ever going to be easily accessible to me.
I watched as the lines danced on the screen, rising and falling with each change in sound until I started to feel my eyes close. The laptop was automatically recording everything anyway, so one little nap wouldn't hurt.
I grabbed the thin blanket that was resting on the back of the couch and covered myself while also grabbing a small pillow to place behind my head for comfort.
I felt like I was only moments away from drifting, when a loud bang coming from the laptop startled me back awake.
"Must you be so aggressive with the door 'Soka?" Skywalker sighed in annoyance and I heard the sound of his chair creaking. I could easily visualize him leaning back in it and raising his chin slightly while keeping his icy gaze on his sister - who seemed to be angry about something if that loud bang was really her slamming the door open.
