Chapter 4
Selena's POV
The next week flew by quickly. Justin left for work early on a morning and came back late at night, around ten or eleven.
Sleeping together was still awkward for us. I would stay on one side and he would stay on the other, as far away from each other as possible.
I noticed his alarm went of at six in the morning but then he'd have another one go off at six fifteen, softer this time.
He was one of those people that needed more than one alarm to get up unlike me. Once my alarm went off I would get off the bed instantly so that I wouldn't fall back asleep.
I usually spent my days with Jason, Maria and Miguel. I had managed to convince them to let me help with the work, as long as I didn't let anyone find out. It kept me busy.
I had managed to make friends with them. They were my only friends here. I had a lot of friends back home but only one of them proved herself, willing to make the effort to keep in touch with me. Her name is Taylor. She was three years older than me so I considered her the sister I never had.
Today was Friday and we were supposed to meet his family for the first time. Once he got home from work, we would head over to their place.
I was told to dress formally but getting Jason ready was proving to be a difficult task, seeing as he hated dress shirts. The boy lived in t-shirts, I swear.
"Come on Jason, just tonight. After that you won't have to wear it anymore, you can stay in your t-shirts." Seeing as this was not working, I took drastic measures.
"I'll let you stay up past your bedtime." I bribed.
"What time?" He asked.
"You can go to bed at ten, tonight."
"Really?" He asked, staring at me wide-eyed.
His usual bed time was at eight-thirty. I figured he'd crash before then though.
"Okay, I'll wear the shirt." He gave in.
"And be on your best behaviour?" I raised an eyebrow.
"And be on my best behaviour." He nodded seriously, holding his hand out for me to shake as if we were making a business deal.
Laughing I shook his hand before putting on his shirt.
It was a long sleeve dress shirt that was white in colour. I put on black jeans for him and left the shirt outside.
Then I combed his hair out, letting it fall into his face, then brushed it to the side in a side sweep. Lastly, I put on his church shoes.
"Don't you look handsome?" I told him afterwards taking in his appearance. He looked absolutely adorable.
He grinned at me. "Thank you mommy."
"You're welcome, baby." I cooed, kissing both his cheeks. "I'm going to go get ready now, watch TV or something but don't make any mess, okay?"
"Okay." He nodded, running out of the room.
I walked out after him and found him in the kitchen, talking excitedly to Miguel about the latest episode of some TV show.
"Keep an eye on him for me, will you? I still have to change." I asked Miguel.
"No problem." He gave me the thumbs up.
"Thanks." I called going back up the stairs.
I showered quickly and changed into my dress.
I paired it with my black heels and straightened my hair, pinning the front back. Once I was finished with my make-up, I put on some perfume and grabbed my purse, making my way downstairs.
Instead of hearing the chatter I expected, I heard complete silence.
I peered into the kitchen seeing it empty so I then went into the living room. I then understood the silence.
The second I entered the room, Jason got up from where he was seated quietly on the couch and ran over to me, holding his hands up as a signal that he wanted me to hold him.
Justin was also seated on the couch, but on the opposite end, once again on the phone with someone he referred to as 'Mr. Martin.'
"He scares me." Jason whispered, burying his head into my neck.
Without even realizing what I was doing, I glared at Justin who looked baffled. I guess when your child says that someone scares them, it's like a reflex.
"What did you say to him?" I asked harshly.
"I didn't say anything." He replied, narrowing his eyes at me ever so slightly.
"Then why is he afraid of you?" I shot back.
"He's afraid of me?" He asked shockingly. "Why?"
"That's what I'm asking you."
"I don't know, I can't even hold a conversation with the kid. He doesn't even look at me."
I looked at him for a minute, waiting for him to realize that he had to show Jason that he wasn't going to hurt him but seeing that he wasn't going to realize that, I shook my head. Jason had this idea in hi head that if his own dad didn't want him, no one else will. I've tried so hard to show him that it wasn't his fault but it just wasn't enough.
"Let's just go." I sighed, making my way to the elevator.
He followed me silently, still trying to figure out why Jase was afraid of him.
It was a short ride to his parents' home or mansion I should say. I stepped out of the car from the right side, Justin coming out on the left. Jason hopped out and held my hand, not liking the fact that he was in a foreign place.
I trailed behind Justin as he walked up the few steps in front the house and rang the doorbell. A few seconds later it opened to reveal a man dressed in a tuxedo.
"Mr. Bieber, nice to see you again, your father is in the living room." He greeted, bowing slightly as Justin walked into the house.
"And you are?" He asked when he saw me, then his eyes trailed down to Jason who was hiding behind my leg.
"Oh yes, Albert, this is Selena, my wife and this is her son, Jason." He introduced.
"Good evening Mrs. Bieber and Mr..?" He trailed off, not knowing Jason's surname.
"Please call me Selena." I told him politely, I hated when people were formal with me. He nodded, understanding that he should also call Jason by his name.
"Come on, let's go meet the family." Justin muttered distastefully.
