Chapter 16
Selena's POV
A few days passed and Justin was back to his normal, mostly happy, self.
His mom's death anniversary was Thursday and today was Sunday. Jason's first day of school was tomorrow and we were currently trying to get him to bed but his excitement, which I did not share, was keeping him up.
"You know, tomorrow will come faster if you go to sleep now." I tried, pulling the covers over him but he just tossed them off.
"She's right buddy. Plus you don't want to sleep through your first day of school, do you?"
He shook his head 'no' and sunk back into his pillow with a huff.
"Fineeeeee." He whined dragging out his letters making me laugh at him.
I hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek. "Sweet dreams, I love you."
He returned my gesture then Justin took his turn in saying goodnight before we made our way to our room.
We got ready for bed but I tried to stealthily prolong going to bed, irrationally hoping to delay tomorrow's arrival.
Keyword: tried.
"You know you moving slower isn't going to delay tomorrow." Justin called from the bed. He was already under the covers, his head propped on his elbow while he stared at me amused.
"I know that. I'm just taking my time." I lied.
"Uh-huh sure."
"I am." I persisted.
"I didn't say you weren't but hurry up. My arms are empty and we have to get up early tomorrow." He pouted cutely.
I stifled a sigh and took off the lights, then crawled into the bed. I placed my head on his chest and he pulled the covers over us before wrapping me in his warm embrace.
"Why are you worrying so much about him starting school? He'll be fine." He spoke against my head.
"I know, I'm just...he's growing up so fast." I said emotionally. Now I understood why mom's cry on the first day of school.
"He's always going to be your little boy."
"I know. But time's moving too fast."
"You'll be just fine, don't worry 'bout it."
"I'l try not to. Goodnight Justin."
"Goodnight beautiful." He responded, pulling me a little tighter against his side.
I nuzzled my head into him and closed my eyes, falling asleep to the sound of Justin's heartbeat.

"No, no, no, no, no. I change my mind. I don't want to go to school. I can start next year. I want to stay with mommy." Jason cried clutching onto my legs.
I bit my lip because I knew it was best for him to start now and once he actually started school he'd enjoy it since he enjoyed reading and stuff but at the same time I wanted him with me. If I only opened my mouth to say something, he'd leave here with me.
I turned to Justin for help and thankfully he knew what to do.
"Hey bud, come here." He cooed, stooping to his level.
He put one hand on Jason's elbow and used the other to wipe his tears, which were weakening my resolve.
"I thought you were excited to get to read and write and make friends to play with?"
"I was but..."
"But nothing. You're just a little afraid right now, just like your mom, but I promise you as soon as you go in there and start talking to other kids, you'll forget about us and the day will just fly by."
"Promise?" He peered up at him innocently.
"I do." Justin nodded.
"And you'll both will be there to pick me up?" He turned to me.
"Of course." I responded, not bothering to correct his mistake right now.
"Okay." He conceded.
"Have fun, love you."
"You too."
"We'll be right here when school is over okay?" Justin spoke.
He nodded and waved 'bye' running inside.
"Well that went better than I expected." Justin said taking my hand in his as we walked back to the car.
"I know, I was expecting to cry."
"I'm surprised you didn't."
"So am I honestly."
He opened my door for me and I thanked him as I got in, buckling my seatbelt as he went around to his side.
"So are you taking me home or...?"
"It's up to you. You can come to the office if you want but I have two meetings back to back so you'll be bored."
"Hmmm, can I come with you? I'll hang around until you're done."
"Sure, babe. Whatever you want." He replied as he drove onto the road.
I smiled at looked at him as he drove wondering how I managed to get lucky with this marriage.

Short and pointless I know, but I'm thinking of introducing more drama in the next chapter. I just need to figure out how...
Anyway, as always feedback is appreciated and encouraged.
