Chapter 5
Selena's POV
We walked into the living room and I immediately noticed the three other people in the room.
"Hey Dad." He greeted a man who seemed to be in his late forty's. He was also dressed in a suit similar to Justin's.
His father greeted him back, along with Jason and I.
"I'm Jeremy, Justin's dad. That's Jazzy," A pretty girl with sleek blonde hair and sparkling brown eyes waved enthusiastically at me, "She's only seventeen but she has a lot of energy so look out for her. And that's Jaxon," He gestured to a boy, once again blonde, who was also wearing a suit. He glanced up from his phone, nodded in acknowledgement then continued whatever he was doing. "My other son. He's nineteen but he's just as mischievous as a teenager." He chuckled a little.
"Hi, I'm Selena and this is Jason. He's a little shy." I giggled when he hid behind me.
"Oh my God! He's so cute!" Jazmyn squealed, coming towards him.
"Hi Jason. I'm your Aunt Jazzy! Let's go play!" She held her hand out for him.
I smiled when he took it slowly and allowed her to take him away.
"Long time no see, Justin." Jaxon put away his phone, smirking at his older brother.
Justin scowled and glared, before walking out the room.
Okay then...?
"Dinner's ready, sir." A voice said.
Jeremy quickly dismissed whoever that was, ushering us all to the dining room.
Jeremy sat at the head of the table, then Jaxon and Jazmyn was on one side, the third seat next to Jeremy remaining empty.
Justin sat in the seat closest to Jeremy, then Jason then me on the end.
I noticed Justin staring silently at the empty seat with an expression close to sadness on his face. Then he shook his head, breaking himself free from whatever trance he was in before he served himself.
I served myself and Jason, putting a little of everything on his plate.
"I don't want any vegetables." He whined.
"But I thought you wanted to grow up to be big and strong, like a superhero?" I asked in mock confusion.
"I do!"
"Then how is that going to happen if you don't eat your vegetables."
He narrowed his eyes at his plate, tapping his chin in thought before he finally gave in.
"Fiiiine." He huffed, making me laugh.
"You're so cute." Jazmyn cooed, making Jason blush and the others laugh, well excluding Justin. He was lost in his own world.
Everyone began eating, light chit chat spread among everyone, courtesy Jazmyn. Jeremy was right when he said she had a lot of energy.
But I couldn't help but notice that Justin wasn't at ease like everyone else.
His eyes kept drifting to the empty seat, then he'd glare at Jaxon for a minute or two then he'd look back at his food then the cycle would repeat.
It wasn't until after dinner did the drama occur.
Jeremy was in some other room dealing with something.
Jazmyn had Jason entertained when Jaxon approached Justin. "How long are you gonna pretend to be upset about this? It happened, get over it. Everyone else has..."
No one saw the punch coming.
In a second, Jazmyn had taken Jason out of the room, Justin had Jaxon pinned up against a wall and I stood in shock not believing what I was seeing.
"Don't you fucking dare tell me to get over it!" He screamed in a strangled voice, a vein in his neck popping, his body shaking with fury. If I thought he was furious with me, then I don't know what to call this. "It's all your fault!"
Only when Jaxon made a choking sound, almost as if he was gasping for breath, did I snap out of my daze.
I went over to Justin, placing my arm on his shoulder. "Justin, let him breathe." Thankfully, he realized that he was choking him and let go off Jaxon, who dropped to the ground coughing, his hands going to his neck.
Jeremy came into the room just as Justin stormed out of the house.
"Uh...I think you guys need to leave now Selena." I nodded in agreement and he called Jazmyn who appeared in a few seconds, a sleepy Jaxon in tow.
"Are we leaving?"
"Yeah." I nodded taking his hand.
"Bye Aunt Jazzy." He waved to her. "I'll come see you soon, okay?" She kissed him on the forehead before hugging me then going over to her brother.
"Bye." I waved one last time at everyone before hurrying out of the house.
I saw Justin pacing in front of the car, angrily running his hands through his hair as he took deep breaths in a attempt to calm himself down.
He saw us and got into the driver's seat. I buckled Jason in then got into the passenger's seat.
"What what that about?" I asked once we were on the road.
"Nothing you need to know about." He said in a clipped tone.
I said nothing, letting the sound of the radio fill the silence.
Just as I was falling asleep, we arrived.
Getting out of the car, I opened the backseat and unbuckled Jason, gathering him in my arms, allowing Justin to lead the way.
Once I had tucked Jason in for the night, I retreated to the room I shared with Justin.
Not seeing him around, I stripped off my dress and changed into a long sleeved top and a sweatpants.
Compared to California, New York was kinda chilly at night, even in July.
I removed my make up and jewelry, crawling into the bed.
"Where's your mom?" I asked Justin when he came into the room, recalling that she wasn't present at sinner nor had anyone mentioned her.
He froze, his body growing tense. I noticed his fist clenching at his side as he grew angry then he took deep breaths to calm himself.
"That's none of your business. Worry about yourself and your coward son." He sneered.
I sat up on the bed, narrowing my eyes at him. "He's not a coward."
"Then why is he afraid of me when I've done nothing to him?" He shot.
"Maybe because you're always acting so cold as if you're silently fuming. He's heard you yelling a people over the phone. He's afraid that you'll take your anger out on him! And you haven't done anything to reassure him considering you're always ignoring him. He's a child Justin! Children are like that." I ranted.
"Oh. I didn't realize." He spoke quietly. "I'll try to talk to him tomorrow."
I nodded, not saying anything and sunk back under the covers, allowing myself to drift into a dreamless sleep.
