Chapter 15

Selena's POV

It was the day of Pattie's death anniversary and we were all up and getting ready to go to the cemetery, Jason included.

At first I felt like we shouldn't be going but Justin asked us to be there and who was I to refuse him?

Thankfully it wasn't a rainy day even though it felt like it in the household.

The sun was out but it wasn't excessively hot, all in all it was good weather for a day out.

Jason could tell that something was up and didn't talk much but did as I said.

I got him ready before doing the same.

Justin got ready as well, his movements robotic.

It was like nothing was really registering.

His face was blank but his eyes held so much pain and sadness. I wanted to help him but I didn't know how to.

He was sat at the breakfast bar, shuffling around the eggs on his plate with his fork.

He pushed away the plate and let out a sigh before tilting his head downwards. His hands went to his hair and he tugged on the strands, letting out a soft groan.

"Mommy, I'm done." Jason whispered beside me as he passed over his empty plate.

I took it from him. "Go wash your hands and wait for us, okay?"

He nodded and scampered out of the room. I placed the plate in the sink and walked over to Justin from behind him.

I placed my hand on his left shoulder and I stood on his right side pulling him into me. He allowed his body to fall limp and I kept him snug against me.

"Want to talk about it?" I asked quietly.

He shook his head 'no.' I nodded. If he didn't want to talk I wasn't going to push him.

I felt his wet eyelashes brush my skin and I knew he was trying to hold his tears in.

"It's okay to let go." I told him.

"I don't want to." He mumbled as he sniffled softly. "Not yet."

We stayed like that a while longer before he pulled away. I brought my hand up to his face and ran my thumb under his eyes, catching the unshed tears.

"Ready to go?"

He nodded and we left, his hand loosely in my left while Jason held onto my right hand.

One of his driver's drove us to the cemetery where we were meeting everyone else.

We got out of the car with the flowers that had been pre-ordered in our hands.

They all went up at once as a family to pay their respects then they did so one by one while I stayed behind with Jason at the entrance of the cemetery.

"Mommy what's going on? Why is everybody so sad?" He asked innocently with a frown on his face.

"A few years ago, on this date, Justin's mommy died. So it's a sad day for him and everyone else." I explained.

"So she would have been my grandma?"

"Yeah. She would have been your grandma." I confirmed.

"What was her name?"

"Pattie."

"Grandma Pattie." He mumbled.

After that I kept him occupied by giving him my phone allowing him to play some racing game he made me download.

After a while a somber Jeremy walked out, followed my Jaxon who looked like the guilt was eating him alive and finally Jazmyn, whose joyful smile and bright eyes was now replaced with a frown and red-rimmed eyes.

I gave them all a hug in goodbye.

"Thank you." Jazmyn said to me when Jeremy and Jaxon had gone towards the car.

"Why are you thanking me?" I asked confused.

"You're helping him. Last year was a million times worse and I know you're making it easier for him, even if you don't know it." She told me hugging me again.

She hugged Jason and promised to drop by before she left.

I kept my eyes on Justin. He was sitting on the ground, his fingers running over the engravings on her headstone.

His lips moved and I knew he was talking to her. After a few minutes his head turned to me and he waved us over.

I took the phone from Jason and lead us to him.

I sat next to him and pulled Jason onto my lap.

He sat quietly and stared at the rise of the dirt.

"Mom, this is Selena, my wife and our son Jason. Technically he's her son but I see him as mine too so yeah. I know you've been watching us so you know everything that's going on but I wanted to introduce you both still." He spoke.

After that we sat in silence, and eventually he leaned his head on my shoulder and I leaned my head against his, Jason was once again occupied with my phone. Sometime after three we decided to leave.

We were currently lying in bed with my head on his chest, ready to fall asleep.

"Thanks for being here. That made it a lot easier on me, believe it or not." He whispered, pecking my forehead. I noticed he liked to do that a lot.

"Anytime. Goodnight Justin." I mumbled sleepily.

"Goodnight Selena."
