Chapter 5 - The Club Fair

Around a few minutes before 5pm, Kita and I are walking towards the gymnasium.


"Wow! The gymnasium is so big!"


Kita seems to be surprised with the size of the gymnasium. Even though I already expect this from a school like Koudo Ikusei, I'm still amaze on how modern and well-maintained the gymnasium is. A lot of first years are already at the gymnasium and is waiting for the club fair to start.

We entered the gymnasium and were handed pamphlets regarding the clubs. I began reading though it while Kita seems to be looking for something.


"Hey, Shizutake-kun. Should we begin looking for Ayanokouji-kun and Horikita-san?"


I looked around for signs of the two before looking back at Kita. Trying to run into them this early would be suspicious if you ask me. We're also bound to run into each other anyway so it's best that if we can make it as natural as possible.

Preferably though, I rather not run into them now. Specifically, Horikita-san.


"We'll run into them eventually, maybe later."

"Hmm ok, why don't we look around the gymnasium then."


As we walk around the gymnasium, I continue reading the pamphlet. It looks like this school doesn't hold back when it comes to the clubs as well. The facilities and equipment provided for each club seems to be in high quality. Joining a club your interested in at this school should be more than worth it.


"Shizutake-kun and Kita-san. I didn't expect you two to be here."


The voice of Hirata called out to us. He is with the group of girls he ate lunch with earlier. I am still surprised on how this guy got close to this many girls in the second day of school.


"Hirata-kun!  Are you guys here to join a club?"

"Only me. I am planning to join the soccer club. They are here to accompany me since they invited me to go shopping after. What about you Kita-san?"


He did say he was part of his middle school soccer club in his introduction so that makes sense. His body seems to be suited for soccer.


"Umm we're just looking around. We don't really have plans to join any clubs, hehe."


Wait, so Kita-san is not joining any club. Did she really just came here to try being friends with Horikita?


Hirata suddenly spoke to me as I was contemplating my recent decisions.


"Shizutake-kun, I don't like to bother you but would the two of you like to join us? After this, you two can come with us shopping at Keyaki Mall."


I found it weird that Hirata asked me and not Kita but one look at his face and his group and I can see why. He is still conscious about being the only male in the pack.


Unfortunately for you Hirata,  I have a good excuse.


"Sorry, Hirata-kun. Kita-san and I are planning to meet up with Ayanokouji-kun while we're here. Please enjoy shopping on our behalf."


Even if I want to come with him, I can feel the unwelcoming aura of the girls around him while they were waiting for my answer. I hold no malice for you Hirata but this is the price to pay for being popular. I hope you understand.


"That's okay, Shizutake-kun. I understand. Let's go there another time whenever you're free."


As long as you're not with your girl group, I might take you up on that offer.


"Sure. Let's go Kita-san, we should probably try looking for Ayanokouji-kun now."

"Huh? Oh right! We'll be leaving now Hirata-kun! See you tomorrow guys!"


Kita seems to be having a small talk with one of the girls in the group.  Hirata-kun kindly returned our farewell.


"See you at class, Shizutake-kun and Kita-san. Enjoy the club fair."

"Ne, Hirata-kun. Let's hurry up, I reeaaally want to go shopping as soon as possible."


The girl with blond hair that is tied in a ponytail said as we were walking away from them. Kita-san and I began to walk around the gymnasium as the club fair began.


"Thank you for waiting, first year students. A representative from each club will explain their activities and how to join. I am Tachibana, the secretary of the student council and the chairman responsible for this club fair. Nice to meet you."


As we're looking around for Ayanokouji and Horikita, the club representatives began lining up on the stage. Some of them are even wearing the uniforms of their respective club. After some time, the archery club representative began her introduction.


"My name is Hashigaki, and I'm the captain of the archery club. I think there are a lot of students who find it old-fashioned and simple, but it is a really fun and fulfilling sport. We give all new students a warm welcome, so if you're interested, please join."


The introduction is kinda generic, honestly. As more introductions followed, I noticed that most of them sound as generic as the first.  There are some interesting ones but not interesting enough to stand out. The gymnasium still feels lively though due to the discussion between students after each introduction.
