It's a Thursday afternoon and our last class just ended.
Most of our classmates are preparing either to go back to the dorms or to hang-out with their friends. Some have already left the classroom in a hurry while some are planning to stay for a while longer.
Ayanokouji, Horikita, and I are preparing to leave when Kushida approach Horikita.
"Horikita-san. I'm going to the cafe with my friend—if you'd like, would you like to join?"
"I'm not interested."
A cold yet expected response from Horikita.
This exchange has been happening for quite some time now. After class, Kushida will sometimes try to invite Horikita to hang out and Horikita will swiftly reject her. The first few tries were not surprising but now it's just pitiful. It wouldn't hurt to accept once you know.
"Is that so.... Well, I'll invite you some other time."
Still, Kushida is persistent. She will probably try again next time and the same exact scenario will occur. Kinda sad really but kudos to her for trying to befriend her. Kushida started to turn back.
"Wait a second, Kushida-san."
Well. this is an interesting development. Horikita called Kushida back. Will she finally give in and accept Kushida's invitation . . .
"Please don't invite me again. It's a bother."
. . . of course not. That bait and switch tactic is unnecessarily brutal. I can't imagine any normal person surviving that harsh follow-up.
"I'll invite you some other time."
And yet Kushida responded with her smile still intact before running back to her friends. Truly that girl has a strong and unyielding heart to still be this persistent. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Kushida is an M because being constantly rejected has got to hurt so much.
After Kushida and her friends left, Horikita coldly looked at me and Ayanokouji who has been watching the entire time, as if to say we better not try to do something like that. We looked away to show that we got the message. She left the classroom once she saw that we understood.
"Horikita-san and Kushida-san are both surprisingly stubborn in their own way."
Kita instantly approached us once Horikita left. It has become a routine of ours to wait until Horikita leaves before talking after class since she doesn't really appreciate Kita's presence.
"Honestly, I'm more surprised that you stopped trying to ask her out."
Everyone except Kushida has tried, failed, and given up on asking Horikita to hang out. Even Kita conceded in trying to be friends with her.
"Well I'm just respecting her decision really. Beside, it's not like Horikita and I have to hang out for us to be friends one day. The opportunity will come, I just know it."
That is an optimistic yet valid way to see it. Well I guess that's better than constantly getting yourself rejected.
"Still, I feel bad for her. A lot of our classmates really hates her for being cold especially to Kushida-san. Especially the girls."
"She probably doesn't care so I wouldn't worry for her."
Being the only one that Horikita actively response to, what Ayanokouji said about her not caring is probably true.
"I really wanna thank you, Ayanokouji-kun, for talking to Horikita-san even if she doesn't consider you a friend. It's nice to know that she at least has someone to talk to."
