"Are you sure you're alright?" I ask Y/N. Ever since she returned from her talk with Adam, she's looked like something was nagging at her. I'm not sure if it's something to do with her health or if it was something Adam said about his heir. Either way, I'm worried. "You've been acting this entire evening."
"I'm alright," Y/N reassures me once again. "I just have a lot to think about right now."
Currently, Y/N and I are walking through the halls towards our rooms. We've just finished a small dinner date out in the garden but she's just seemed more distant. I had hoped that the garden would bring a cheery smile to her face but her eyes looked distant. It wasn't much better when we started eating. Y/N only ever gave me one-word answers and was quiet the whole time. It hurt a little but I can understand if she wasn't feeling well.
"Well, I'm right next door if you ever need me," I say quietly, giving Y/N's hand a reassuring squeeze.
"Thank you, darling," she sighs, returning the gesture. "You really don't know how much it means to hear that."
We finally stop in front of Y/N's door and I'm hit with anxiety upon seeing it. Yes, Arthur is no longer part of the living world, but he could very well be an angered spirit. Luciel is still at large as well, only increasing my original anxiety. I can't leave her alone again. Not tonight. A small part of me wants to ask Y/N if she would let me sleep next to her tonight but I fear that might be crossing a line. We've only been romantically involved for a week, after all.
"I should get to bed," Y/N says after a moment staring at her door. "I do need to talk to you tomorrow... about going back."
"I understand," I whisper, kissing her temple. "Get some rest. The last forty-eight hours have not been kind to you."
Y/N chuckles and steps towards her door. "Good night, my Love," she says, closing the door. I'm a little disheartened that she didn't give me a kiss good night but I can't blame her. She did look exhausted since dinner. Nonetheless, that isn't the reason why I stand outside her door for longer than one would consider appropriate. I stay there in case I hear her scream again. I'm staying because I don't want to be too late ever again. The only reason I even consider going to my room is Snare sticking one of his vines out from under the door and motioning me to go away.
Once I close the door to my room, I let out a large sigh and look at the wall adjacent to Y/N's and my room. As much as I want to listen in or to check on her, I know I have no need to. She has made it clear that she wishes to be alone at the moment and I must respect her boundaries. Doing just that, I step away from the door and towards my closet, grabbing my sleep-wear for tonight. It's nothing extravagant, just a purple, satin shirt with matching pants to go along with it. I change quickly, hanging my clothes from the day back in my closet. Finally, I'm ready to get some rest after the stress I've been put under these past few days. Unfortunately, the intrusive thoughts have other plans.
Stress you've faced? What about Y/N? She was put under much more stress than you.
I didn't mean it like that. Yes, she has faced worse but I am exhausted from all of the events.
And she isn't? You're a selfish bastard, Boo.
In no way did I say that she isn't exhausted!
But it's what you meant.
Y/N looked so tired while we were having dinner.
Yet you kept trying to push her to talk.
Only for the first few minutes, then I let her be!
My argument against myself is cut short by knocking at my door. Taking a moment, I calm my thoughts enough to get up and walk to the door. I don't trust my voice to answer and someone wouldn't be coming here at this hour unless it was important. Opening the door, I expect to see Louis or Maya, but I'm met with Y/N looking up at me.
