~(Y/n) pov~

Today was absolutely horrifying in the best possible way. It's like going on Space Mountain in Disneyland for the first time, swimming with sharks, and fun shit like that. It made me feel like I could do anything. The whole world's there for the taking if you've got the balls to go for it. And then, when you least expect it, some other Kook shows up and tells you there's no eternal mystery. And then all that talk about Space Mountain and sharks and Disneyland...pfft, bullshit. Magic gets cancer and ultimately dies.

"It's not there. Look, just—just pull the drone up.", John B sighed.

"Look, we can do another pass. Recharge the battery.", Pope claimed.

"Recharge the battery? What happened?", I asked JJ.

"Recharge the battery. We can- we can go back down.", Pope repeated.

"We couldn't find it?", I asked worriedly.

"We've done it three times. There's nothing there.", JJ said in an annoyed tone.

"Shut up!", Kie yelled.

"What? It's true!", JJ argued.

"The gold could be buried, we don't know.", Kie theorized.

"Kie has a point. It might be buried.", I agreed.

"Look, if it was there, it would've been found on the metal detector. Somebody beat us to it.", John B hissed.

"Who else beside us knew about the gold?", I asked curiously.

"Or it was never there.", JJ scoffed.

"Don't say that, JJ. It probably was but—", I tried to reassure him.

"Not now, okay?! Just not now!", he snapped in an irritated tone.

"Okay...sorry...", I apologized in a hurt tone.

"(Y/n)...", he attempted to speak.

"It's fine. We'll talk later...", I said as I gave him a sad smile.

"Okay. Where are you going?", he asked as I stepped outside the cabin.

"I'm going on the deck. It's hot in here and I need some fresh air. Don't worry.", I assured him.

"Okay.", he said as thunder rumbled in the distance.

-TIMESKIP, John B pov-

I dropped everyone off at their locations, Pope being the last to be let go considering we borrowed his dad's boat and I left mine there.

My sister and I rode through the canal on our boat, making light conversation.

"So, you're all buddy-buddy with JJ, now?", I asked her softly.

"Yeah. He's a really cool guy but, he's a bit of a dumbass, sometimes.", she joked.

"Yeah, that pretty much sums him up.", I teased as I bumped my elbow with hers.
