Today was definitely pretty interesting. You ended up learning more about you, rather than Scott.
====================================
Finally approaching your house, Scott just stood in awe. You noticed the direction of his gaze and, noticing the time, invited him in. He tried to brush off the offer and turned around to leave, but you kept insisting he come inside. Sighing, Scott followed you inside. He knew deep down he couldn't argue with you.
"Here, take a seat, I'll get you a cup of water or something." You pointed to the couch and walked into the kitchen.
"Oh, it's fi-" You were already gone by the time Scott had started speaking. "And he's gone." Scott sat on the couch you pointed to and waited politely. Walking in and placing the two cups of water on the coffee table in front of you two, you sat beside Scott. "Wow.. You really didn't change much here, did you?"
"I've only been here for a few days and I'm almost dirt broke. I don't exactly have the money or the heart to change much here. Everything feels so.. nostalgic here." You hummed slightly as Scott placed his hands on his knees.
"O-Oh, well, that's understandable. You did spend a lot of time here, after all."
"Yeah, I guess so. I just don't have any memories of this place."
There was an awkward silence between you two. Scott felt slightly disheartened that you didn't remember him, but he was sure to brush his feelings aside.
"That's fair, it was about 15 years ago that you moved away. We were either freshmen or sophomores if I remember correctly."
"Oh, that's right, it was the summer entering sophomore year that I moved I think." A slight chuckle escaped your lips. Seems like you have a few memories, even if they were scarce.
-
"Wait, what do you mean you're leaving? (Y/N)..?"
You couldn't bring yourself to tell the boy in front of you too many details. The shock and distress in his face was painful to see. He was clearly distraught by the news. You had to keep it vague. You knew if he learned too much he'd beg his parents to go with you. That boy, Scott, was your best friend. Your 'ride or die' till the end. You two were nearly inseperable.
Well, used to be. As much as you begged your parents to move in with your grandparents, it was all in vain.
"Yeah.. T-Trust me, I tried to convince them to let me stay!"
"We were supposed to be inseperable, man!"
"I know, but I can't change my parents' decision."
"But-"
"I'll be back as soon as I can, I promise."
"You promise, (Y/N)?" Scott held his pinkie out to you.
"I promise, Scott." You interlocked your pinkie with his and pressed your thumbs together, finalizing your promise.
-
"Huh."
"Uh-?" Scott looked to you, confused. "Did you say something..?"
"Oh, I just remembered our promise. Seems like I didn't exactly keep it." You felt slightly disappointed in yourself, but brushed it off when Scott chuckled.
"What do you mean you didn't keep it? You said you'd come back when you could, and look, you're back." Scott's reassurance seemed to help you a bit, as a smile crept across your lips.
