Winters War

Chapter 35:

      "She said what?"Sam questions, "Right, hold on, hold on. I know I know. Listen pack an overnight bag and take the boys." "What happened?"Bucky asks as soon as Sam hangs up the phone. "Karli called Sarah. She threatened my nephews." "Who is Sarah?"I ask. "She's my sister." "You have a sister?", he just gives me the look of death instead of an answer. I just raise my hands in defense.

     "Karli wants to meet. She left a contact number." "What are we waiting for then?"I ask. "No, she said come alone."he replies. "No, that's not happening. We are coming with you."I tell him. Sam doesn't say anything instead he just nods and begins to walk off again. "Are you ready for this?"Bucky asks me. I raise my hand letting the blue sparks dance. "Ready as I'll ever be."

     "Karli!"shouts Sam. I don't like this, I have a very bad feeling that I can't seem to shake. Something is going to go wrong. I know it. She pops her head out from the second floor, looking down at us. As we walk up the stairs I take Bucky's hand and pull him aside. "I don't have a good feeling about this Buck. Something is wrong, very very wrong. It's almost like I can feel it." "Just try to stay sharp okay, be on full voltage just in case."he tells me. "I can't really hide that from her, it will make things worse."I tell him. "Then have it on stand by."he says before following the stairs to Sam.

     "You called my sister? That's how we're gonna play this?"he snaps. "Sam I would never hurt her. I wanted to understand you better. That's like saying I would hurt their daughter."she says as she points at Bucky and I, "I would never hurt any of them." She slowly lifts herself from the railing she was leaning on to fully face us. "I see you didn't come alone." 

      "You have to end this now."Sam interrupts. "I don't want to hurt you."she says, "you're just a tool in the regimes I want to destroy. You're not hiding behind a shield." I watch as her brown eyes watch Bucky's blue ones. "If I were to kill you, it'd be meaningless."she continues, "I was going to ask you to join me." Oh this isn't good, this really isn't good. "Or do the world a favor and let me go."

      Sam suddenly looks down at his device in his wrist before saying "it's Walker." Bucky quickly jumps from the railing but Karli quickly body slammed him into a pillar. "Now that was just uncalled for."I grunt as I leap down on top of her. She quickly grabs my legs and slams my back into a wall. I'm really getting sick of walls. Once she's far enough away from the wall I hook my feet behind her back and flip.  We both land hard on the ground, groaning in pain as we stand. Sam tries to cover me until I'm back on my feet.

   "I'll send you the location. Go!" I don't hesitate and take off. My legs burn with how fast I am pushing myself to run. Not to mention the bruised throat is not helping. Last time I ran like this was charging the field to attack Thanos's army, I also didn't have super Solider serum then so I'm moving a lot faster.

       Once we reach the building two men come out from the shadows and attack Bucky and I. The man and I fall backwards but thanks to Natasha I use my feet to kick him off of me. "Blue now would be a good time for some lightning!"shouts Bucky. I quickly shoot a lightning bolt at the man fighting Bucky. The bolt misses but cause the man to stumble. It's then I notice a leaking pipe dripping onto the floor, and everyone is in its puddle.

      "Bucky move!" I shout, but he just looks at me. "Move now!" His eyes jump down to where I'm kneeling, noticing the water. He quickly finds a dry area as I crank up the heat. Electricity shoots through the water electrocuting the men. One man however is somehow still standing when I stand. Bucky just kicks him through a wall, "stay there."he says. "Smooth, real smooth."I say sarcastically as we jog up the stairs. "You like that."he chuckles.

     Four people are trying to attack Sam and John when we find them. With no hesitation we charge in. "What's with all the knives."John says clearly annoyed. I just roll my eyes before tackling one of the girls. She hits me directly on my bruised cheek, causing me to stumble. Her laugh just echos in my ears. "You were supposed to be one of us you know." Another blow. "But no, prince  charming just had to come along." Another blow. "And steal you back." Another. "We'll look at him now princess." She grabs my hair and forced me to watch Bucky get attacked. She then spins me around, smashing me against a pillar. Another hit.

      "Looks like hubby won't be able to save you this time."she snarls. Another hit. I start to laugh, causing her to stop and look at me, this twisted smile on my face. "You hit like a bitch." Bam! I punch her square in the jaw, pushing her back. She tries to keep hitting me but she just takes hit after hit, each one making her stumble. Out of the corner of my eye I watch her pull out a knife but quickly dodge each swipe.

        She tries to cut my chest but I quickly grab her arm and twist forcing her to drop the knife. "Honey, do you know who I'm married too? You should know to never threaten me with a knife." I snap as I kick her in the stomach. "You will always lose."I grunt as I give her another swift kick making her fall. I look down at the knife in my hand before looking at her. "And never threaten my husband."I tell her before throwing the knife down into the cement, right next to her head.

     Suddenly a man tries to attack Sam from behind but Bucky steps in. One punch from his metal arm and the man is out cold. "You're welcome."he says sarcastically before moving to the next target. It's like they are coming out of every hole and craves in the ground.

     Karli screams as she charges a bound John, knife in hand. I quickly jump in front of him blocking her blow. "Awe look who's helping me." "Nope, still hate you"I grunt as I try to push her back, "I just rather kill you myself."  Somehow I find the strength to push her back. She stumbles when out of no where Lamar tackles her. The two quickly stand but she punches him so hard he flies through the air hitting a stone pillar. The only sound hear was the sound of bones breaking.

     Everything stopped, even the air was still as everyone looked over at the broken man. John quickly breaks free and rushes over to his best friend's side. "Hey, Lamar. Lamar." Everyone turns and looks to each other, unsure of what to do. When Lamar doesn't make a sound, the reality of it hits John and everyone else. He was gone. Karli killed him. The Flag Smashers took this as their opportunity to run. Might have honestly been their best idea yet.

       I know how vengeful someone can get when they lose someone they truly care about. I look to Bucky thinking about how I spent years without him. Thinking about him being dusted, and for 5 years I was alone. I'm pulled back to reality when Sam and Bucky run past me, after Karli.

      As we run past this little square I hear this screaming. "Guys stop! Stop!"I shout forcing them to stop and turn to me. "It wasn't me!" I don't look at them before running in the direction of the screaming. There is a crowed gathered around this statue where the shouting is coming from. Bucky and Sam quickly catch up to me as I push past the people.

     There was one of the Flag Smashers pinned beneath John as he continuously brought the shield down on him. A young man who was just doing what he thought was right. Bucky grabbed my sides and tried to pull me into him, but I couldn't move. Blood coated the shield, coated the memory of Steve Rodgers. The blood of the innocent, now staining the memory of our best friend.
