Wind blows softly through my hair as I sit on the steps and watch the sun rise. The air is cool and has this clean yet salty smell to it which is somehow very comforting. "Coffee?"Sarah asks as she walks out to join me. I nod as she hands it too me, the mug is nice and warm contrasting with my cold skin. "Couldn't sleep?"she asks.I just nod and continue taking in the view. "Bad dreams?" "Is it that obvious?"I chuckle. "I remember when Sam first came home. You could hear his cries from down the hall. He had a hard time adjusting to life again too don't let him fool you." Slowly I take a sip from the warm mug, the bitter drink flooding over my tongue and burning my throat as I swallowed. "What happened to him, if you don't mind me asking." She was silent for a moment, the waves taking the place of her words. "He was apart of this program in the military, they thought it was a stealthier way of getting troops where they needed to be and such. Thats how he got his wings."she says softly, "and while on a mission his best friend was shot down in front of him. Not long after that Sam was back at my doorstep."
My grip on the mug tightens as I remember his words from yesterday "I may not understand the same type of hell you went through but I have been there too." This ping of guilt now entering my stomach. "I didn't know that."I tell her. "It took him along time to get back to the way he was before he left, but then he started talking to these people and it really started to help. After he started running the meetings himself."
We sit in silence for a little while until I finally got up the nerve to speak. "What if I can't be who I was?"I ask her. She remains silent for a moment, her eyes focusing on the coffee rippling in her mug. "If you will it then you will."she finally says. A sigh escapes me as I look back down. "Listen Sapphire I know it is a lot easier said than done but if anyone can help you it's going to be Sam. I know I don't hardly know you but from what I do know you are this beautiful strong woman who has been through hell and back more times than anyone can count, if you can make it through all of that thank you can make it through this. Don't let this break you. From a mother to a mother don't let this beat you, fight for it and win."
Once again tears begin to fall. I think this is the most I have cried my entire life but she is right. "Thank you."I say with a sniffle. "Don't mention it, now come lets get cleaned up people will be here soon."she says as she slowly stands.
People litter the once quiet land as everyone tries to help with Sam's boat. I stand silently as Sam talks to some old family friends, thanking them for coming to help. "When word gets out that the Wilson family needs help, we still got a bit of usefulness in us."says one of the older men. I just stair at what I think is an engine, honestly I'm not good with boats. "How do ewe get it off the truck?"
Suddenly it begins to move on its own. Everyone turns as I see the form of someone I know all too well. Well a loud thud he turns to us, "you're welcome." My heart nearly stops. My whole body tells me to run away to not look back, not out of fear though, out of shame. He barely looks at me before staring to walk away. "You called Bucky?"I say my voice trembling as I turn to Sam. "No but I'm glad he is here, you need him." "I never said I.." "you need him no matter if you want to admit it or not. He is your other half and you know it. Now is the time to try and fix things before it's too late."and with that he walks away.
