"I like the new movie theater seats!"
My town's new movie theater seats are something you'd see in a futuristic movie... One of the rows is separated by a short wall, all the seats are leather and have reclining buttons, all the seats have their own mini table that you can spin to come right in front of you... It's full luxury...
Now don't get me wrong!! It was cool and relaxing and nice and all, it's just that I almost feel guilty sitting in such comfortable seats... I understand that it's nice to treat yourself once in a while but I couldn't help my mind to keep wandering to all those people out there who don't have clean water, who don't have a place to live, who only get one small meal a day! Or maybe some days they don't get anything. Those who haven't even seen a movie in their life. My heart goes out to them.
That's one reason that I don't favor the new seats, to feel guilty to have such an expensive thing for my own entertainment. But I also have another reason...
The thing is, I don't want to be separated from people. These new seats were separated and barricaded from the people sitting near you. I get that some people like that and want their space, but for me that's how you meet people.
Not through isolation but through accidents.
It's meeting a new friend that may be your BFF throughout the rest of your life, or it's meeting a cute boy who you'll someday marry! How can I afford to miss that opportunity?
It's accidents that bring people together and start conversations. According to the old movie theater seats, the accidents would be things such as accidentally kicking the seat in front of you, or accidentally spilling your popcorn on someone. It's weird to think about, but how I view it: accidents can bring people closer together.
Unless it's someone grumpy that you spill popcorn on and they sue you or something ;)
