She gulped a heavy lump audibly, watching Madhu moving out of her room, leaving her alone decked up as a bride again, in a red nylon-silk saree for her wedding night. It had a heavy 'pallu' with golden aari work, bordered with 'gota patti'. She hoped for few words of strength but it was difficult to raise such topic with her sister-in-law, when she could never talk about it with Sapna even. Only Mamta shared about her married life in bits and pieces, imparting her a little knowledge about the dynamics.

Fidgeting with her fingers she licked her lips, failing to understand how to sit before he enters in the room. In the middle of the bed with her face covered in a veil like shown in movies or simply at one corner of the bed?

The flower strings tied at the four corners of the bed and rose petals spread all over the mattress, added more to her anticipation of what the night held for her.

Putting her messy brain to rest, she simply sat at the corner of the bed, her legs hanging loosely from the bed. Her eyes fell on the bowl of dry fruits and two glasses of milk kept on the night stand and she immediately shut them, feeling embarrassed, being very well aware of their purpose tonight.

Truly speaking, she was scared about the whole ordeal but a thought of whether being ready for this next step in her marriage or not, never crossed her mind. It was a ritual that she was supposed to follow like every other couple on their first night do. She was only insecured about the fact that will she be able to please him? Or he might withdraw all his affection from her, if he doesn't find her beautiful enough? The thought was unsettling and she wished to escape her reality.

"You should go now." Madhu said to her just married brother who was lulling Veer to sleep in his arms as his other two nephews slept carelessly on the mattresses laid down in the living room. Madhu was staying here till she can guide Nandini about the chores and can return to her house without any stress of her brothers' and father's well-being. He hummed in response and tucked Veer inside the blanket before checking on the main gate and windows and heading towards his room, where she must be waiting for him.

It was their nuptial night afterall and he was simply loving the idea of loving her, till his heart's content.

There was excitement in his stance yet he was nervous to not come out desperate in front of her. All in all he wanted to make this experience beautiful for both of them.

Huffing out a deep breathe, he opened the double door of their room and latched it before facing her. There she was, his demure beautiful bride playing with her hand jewellery.

Her fingers fisted her saree as she heard his slow yet determined steps treading towards her. Her heart started pounding hard against her chest, as his cologne filled her senses. She could feel him close.

He sat next to her and watched her keenly. The view of her left cheek didn't appear rosy in the dim lights instead she looked pale and was slightly shivering. Her fragile demeanor screamed nothing but disquietude. It wasn't something he anticipated.

Without jumping to any conclusion, he cleared his throat to grab her attention but nothing seemed to work even after doing it thrice.

Nandini blinked, contemplating the reason behind his throat discomfort. To curb it down a bit, she simply handed over the glass of warm honey milk to him and he knew something was amiss.
