Happy Reading...

8th November, 1995.

It was around seven thirty in the morning when Nandini entered the kitchen after having her morning tea with her husband who seemed to be too lazy to get out of the bed today. It took only a day, for her misconception about him being a morning person to break as he doesn't wake up until forced to. He only wakes up early to have his tea with her and then falls asleep till late, until she threatens him to not serve any breakfast. The scene might be funny for her father-in-law who hides his smile on seeing Manik getting scolded but she couldn't help and feel angry at his laziness as she gets late in completing the chores.

Through the week that had passed, Nandini got easily accustomed to the household chores along with managing the men in the house, the most difficult being her own husband. The only thing that she couldn't get hold of were the expenses and groceries, that she still had to discuss with Manik.

Around an hour later, she was done with the breakfast and lunch that needed to be packed for the men to take along. Still having half an hour in hand to serve breakfast, she decided to wake her husband and clean her room meanwhile. She entered inside the room with his clothes in her hand and sighed in small relief on finding the bed empty.

Folding the heavy blanket she kept it in one corner and felt pain in her lower back increasing. It was persistent since she got her periods this morning and will only increase as the day will pass tiring her out to the bones.

Sighing out loud, she sat on the bed and drank few sips of water to calm herself down.

"Are you okay? You look dull since morning." Manik came inside from the balcony and sat next to her, keeping the kalash at a side. He was observing her since he woke up and therefore didn't trouble her for anything.

"Hmm. A little pain in the lower back." She answered quietly making him nod. "Any reason behind this or you want to see the doctor?" He asked softly and she shook her head in negative.

"I'll be okay after resting."

"You sure?" He confirmed making her smile at his care.

"Double sure. Now you wear your clothes or you'll catch cold." She said cheerfully pulling him along and started making the bed while he wore his clothes and hanged his towel in the balcony by himself, shocking Nandini for which he simply ignored her expressions.

"So when you are free for Diwali shopping." Manik asked combing his hair and she went still at his words. Yesterday she had asked him to take her for buying essential items for Diwali which is just around the corner and today she cannot go, not until her periods get over.

"Can we go after few days?" She asked hesitatingly, feeling uncomfortable to tell him the reason. She hadn't talked about it to any male before, no matter if he is her husband, it is still difficult for her to talk it out loud.

"Why? We won't go today as you aren't well but maybe tomorrow. It's Sunday and I'm free." He reasoned and his frown deepened as he watched her going nervous. He kept the comb back and walked closer to her, making her sit on the bed and sat next to her.

"You want to say something?" He kept his voice soft and entwined their fingers surprising her. He always surprises her with his tenderness when it comes to her and when outside this room, he is completely an aloof person for the rest except the children ofcourse.
