—————

"Hey... Sapnap."

The brunette sat there with a star-struck face for seconds straight before finally speaking up.

"Your neck," he whispered out.

Dream eyes widened. He forgot about the marks on his neck. He brought a hand up to his neck slowly, letting his fingers run against the skin, "It was a mistake." He says, looking down to the floor rather than the other's eyes.

"Right," Sapnap says. "Welcome back I guess."

Dream takes another long breath, "Thanks." He says, flickering his eyes between Sapnap and the hardwood floors. "Can I sit next to you?"

Sapnap doesn't reply or nod, he only makes room for the other on the couch. Dream walks up to the gray cushions, sitting next to who he wished he could call his boyfriend.

"How have you been?" Dream asked.

"Alright." The brunette dryly responds. Dream wants to get further, but he feels like he can't het anywhere further than where they're at.

"I've missed you," Dream's voice wavers as he lets the words fall past his lips. He regretted it as soon as he said it. The truth that he wanted to forbid from saying is where they were beginning, he wanted anything but that.

"I can tell. That's why you have those marks on your neck right?"

Sapnap regretted saying that as well. He's been trying not to let his selfish emotions get in the way, but it's hard when you hate to be wrong.

And nobody likes being wrong. Especially not Sapnap.

"I'm sorry," he says out shortly after. "Shit I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it."

"It's fine." Dream shuts him up quickly with the harsh tone. He doesn't want to hear an apology for that. He wants an apology for making him hurt, for making him feel unlovable, perhaps even proving he might be unlovable.

"I just wanted to talk to you. So please talk to me— about something else please." Dream doesn't know what he's saying. Whatever came to his mind was the first thing off his tongue, but seconds later a feeling of regret would pang deep down in his stomach.

Truth be told, he didn't want to talk to Sapnap right now. He wanted time away. But the devil on his shoulder convinced him that things could go faster than they were. Fast enough that they would be back together in no time.

But things only felt so much slower.

"I've missed you too," Sapnap responds to Dream's remark earlier, doing as he's told as of the speaking.

Dream swears he could shiver. The cold tension was so thick in the air, and only a thin thread left of a rope was stopping him from running out the door.

"I regret it, a lot." Sapnap says.

It's something that Dream wanted— no, needed to hear.

"I talked to Quackity about it, and he told me that I fucked up," Dream lets out a small breathy laugh before his face drops back to the still miserable expression.

"But he gave me good advice as well."

Dream didn't know why Sapnap was telling him this.

And almost if their thoughts were mirrored, "I don't know why I'm telling you this." Sapnap says.
