Punz finally walked back through the door, closing it carefully behind him. He walks to the couch on the opposing side of the room, sitting down in the middle of the long sofa before looking directly at Dream and Sapnap.
"You guys are cute together. I wish I had what y'all have."
Punz didn't know.
Dream started to laugh awkwardly, "We aren't a couple anymore. I don't think you want what we have," Dream quietly joked, to which Punz's eyes went wide at.
"Oh shit, I didn't know," he stared apologetically. "If you don't mind me asking—"
"You want to know what happened?" Dream interjected.
Punz hesitated before nodding.
"He— he—," there were so many things Dream could say.
He made a mistake, he cheated, he stopped loving me, he hurt me, he didn't care.
"He cheated," Dream decided to say.
"Oh."
"Yeah," Dream said.
There was an awkward tension filling the air.
"I'm sorry." Punz said. Dream knew the other didn't mean to go to far. And he didn't. It felt like so many people had known already, it wouldn't hurt if another one did.
"No need to be. We're trying to figure things out."
Are they?
"Well that's good. I'm glad you two are still friends."
Of course.
Dream finds his hand traveling to meet Sapnap's hair, fingers softly brushing through brown locks and grazing his scalp softly.
Dream speaks to draw the attention away from his actions, "We have drinks in the fridge, by the way. Only if you want some."
"Like alcohol?"
Dream nods, "We were saving it for Sap's birthday, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you took one."
Dream watches as Punz stand up and walks to the fridge, grabbing one of the glass bottles of beer. Using the edge of the counter, he maneuvered the metal cap off before throwing it away.
He walked back over to the othet couch before his crystal blue eyes met Dream's, scanning over the blond's face.
"You look stressed— or distressed. I don't know the difference," Punz said, taking his first sip.
Dream huffs, "It's been quite the day."
"Wan' to talk about it?" Punz offers, but Dream declines with the slight shake of his head.
"I'll tel you later," Dream says. "I want to get things off my mind first."
Punz hums in acknowledgment before taking his third, fourth, fifth sip.
Dream suddenly wants to get up. He needs to get up.
He gently moves Sapnap's head off his lap, laying it back down against a pillow on the couch when he stands.
He turns and looks towards Punz. "Want to go outside with me?" He asks.
Punz shrugs his shoulders, "Sure, why not."
Dream gestures "come on" with his hand, causing Punz to stand up and follow him to the front door. Patting his pockets, checking for his keys before leaving, he goes out the front door with Punz.
He sits down on the second step from the door, Punz doing the same.
He looks to his left, reaching behind some reddish clay plant pot, grabbing a pack of cigarettes.
It's been too long since he's had one. He forgot to bring a pack to Karl's and was too scared to buy some with the brunette with him.
"Woah, you smoke?"
Dream hums, "Don't tell Sap, though. He'll kill me it he found out I started again."
Punz scoffs, "Don't worry. I just didn't think you were such a badass."
Dream rolled his eyes at the dumb remark. Before taking the lighter out of the box and lighting a cigarette in between his lips.
"So like— does it taste good?" Punz asks.
"Nope."
"Then why do you do it?"
"Nicotine."
"Oh shit— yeah. Wait that makes sense."
Dream drags a breath of smoke between his lips before blowing it back out. "Punz?"
The lighter blond hums, taking another sip of his drink.
"Are you good with relationships?"
It was an awkward question to ask for anyone. But right now it seemed so normal, like it was an everyday topic.
But Punz only shrugs. "I don't know. I've only been in two."
"Well I'll give you a scenario, and tell me what you'd do."
Punz shrugs his shoulders once again, "Okay."
"Right, so," Dream takes another drag of smoke between his lips, inhaling before exhaling through his nose. "You've been hurt. Not physically— but you're hurt."
Punz hums, showing that he's following.
"But you really love this person that's hurt you. And they keep hurting you by saying mean things, and you can't tell if it's on purpose or not,"
"Is Sapnap—"
"Listen," Dream interrupted. "But one day you see them and they look hurt. And you never want to let go."
Dream put out his cigarette, rubbing what was was left of the small burning stub on the stairs before dusting it away. "What would you do?"
It was clear to Punz that Dream needed advice. He just simply didn't know what advice to give him.
"I'm not good at this stuff," he starts, taking another sip of his drink, "But if he's hurting you then it's not worth to stay."
When Dream asked the question, he had the intention of receiving an answer he hadn't exorcted. Something he should listen to and follow through with.
But when Punz said that, he felt his heart drop to his stomach. He didn't want that answer. He wanted more of an excuse to stay.
His mind and heart desired Sapnap, but everything seemed to be against the section of his heart which was devoted to him.
"Alright, thank you." Dream said regardless of his opinion.
"So are you going to just leave him? I mean— you don't have to take my advice. It's just what I would do but I don't know your guys' situation and," Dream was no longer listening to Punz. He zoned out before taking another cigarette from the box, lighting and and putting it in between his lips.
He thought long and hard on what Punz had said, but Punz gave him the wrong answer.
He wanted to stay with Sapnap. And if his heart ripped to shreds while trying to make things better, he'd be wounded knowing that Sapnap was the last one to possess his heart.
