They haven't pulled apart yet. Two minutes had passed by, they're still in each other's arms.
"I've missed us," Sapnap finds himself saying. It's more than true. Dream could say the same about himself.
"I've missed us too," he whispers. It's barely audible, luckily his head being rested on Sapnap's shoulder, he was able to hear.
Finally, Dream pulls away. He's looking right into the green eyes he's always been meant to look into.
"Please tell me this means something," Sapnap says.
Dream begins to frown as he shakes his head. "I don't want it to mean anything. I don't want it to mean anything right now."
"Why?"
The desperation in Sapnap's voice was embarrassing. His voice cracked, his heart ached.
"Because I'm scared, Sap." Dream admits. Tears continue to flow down his freckled cheeks, his soft skin being streaked with salty tears.
"There's not a doubt in my body about the fact that I love you, but fuck— I'm scared of being with you again. I'm scared I won't be good enough for you again."
Sapnap could've sworn his heart stopped for a moment when Dream said that. Dream had been more than good enough for him, he is more than good enough for him. He's been too good to Sapnap, if anything.
"I'm scared we'll be fine at first, but I won't be as good as I was before, and you'll fall right back out of love again. And I just know that I'll try and try to make sure it works again," Dream sucks in a small quiet breath, taking a long pause before continuing.
"But what if it doesn't work," his voice was so quiet when he spoke at this point, so quiet it was barely audible.
"I'm scared that it won't work and we both won't get what we want. What if this wasn't meant to—"
"Stop," Sapnap interrupted. "Please don't say that. I promise we were," he says.
"I swear on my life, on my mother's grave— just please don't say that."
Dream complies, he stops talking about it. He's listening to Sapnap now.
"Please just give me a chance— I know I probably don't deserve you and I'm so, sorry, but please. I'll make it up to you," he pleads.
Dream doesn't want to argue, but he wants to let Sapnap know he does deserve another chance— because he's hurting too.
He misses Sapnap so much, it's been hard to hide. Not even hide, it's been hard not to express it.
He wants to be cautious, he wants to take every move he makes carefully. But it's so hard not to be wreckless, not to just take what he wants when it's right in front of him.
Sapnap is right in front of him.
He wants to make sure things are right, that things won't end like how they did the last time.
"How would you make it up to me, Sap? I don't even want you to make anything up to me— I just don't want anything to stop us from being okay together," he says.
More tears are rolling down his cheek. He wants things to be easy now, but that part seems so far away still. He wants Sapnap to make things easy for him.
And as if Sapnap could read his mind just for the sole purpose to toy with him, Sapnap brings a hand up to his cheek, wiping a way a tear.
He feels like his lip would start trembling, if he hadn't been holding back. He's so close to the one he wants, but he can't even tell if he can have what he wants.
He waits for Sapnap to back away, to pull his hand away, to push Dream away from him, but the brunette doesn't move. He stays still, looking into Dream's eyes.
"Please don't give up on me. I promise I can be better. I will be better if you let me," he says.
And there it is. Dream is breaking, he's cracking at the seams. His thoughts of playing things safe have washed out the window, blowing away into the cold airs.
He manages to look at Sapnap in the eye for a second longer before he presses his lips against the others.
His eyes close, his arms snake around Sapnap comfortably before pulling away. He looks at Sapnap, who had a minimal amount of shock behind his eyes.
He looks down to his feet. He's scared he's made the wrong decision.
"Promise you won't leave me," Dream says.
"I promise."
"Do you love me?" He asks.
"More than anything," Sapnap replies in an instant.
Dream's going back to wrap his arms around the other.
He's wanted this for too long, now. But he finally has it, no matter what label they put on it.
"I love you too," he mutters back.
