"Shit— I forgot I have to meet my landlord today! My pipelines and shit aren't working and that bitch doesn't believe it." Punz says.
Dream scoffs and laughs, "You better get to it then. I don't know about your landlord but ours is stubborn."
Punz began to stand up, "Yep," he pops his lips at the end of his words before grabbing out his keys.
"I've got to go, but call me later. I'm down to hang," he suggests before turning to his car.
Before Dream goes back inside, he takes on last puff of smoke before rubbing it out on the stair case and hiding the rest of the cigarette bud behind the plant pot, putting the pack of cigarettes there as well.
He stands up and opens the door, accidentally letting it slam behind him.
He watches as Sapnap stirs awake to the loud noise, eyes slowly fluttering open. The brunette looks up at him for a moment before he looks back down, turning away from him and laying back down.
"Are you awake?" Dream asks.
He isn't met with a response.
"Sapnap?" He calls out again. Sapnap hums back.
"You want to talk?" Dream asks.
"Last time we talked it didn't go well," Sapnap said with a yawn. "I don't want to mess up anymore."
Dream's footsteps stuttered before coming to a stop. He doesn't want to mess up. He knows he was wrong.
"Oh."
Sapnap yawns again. "Yeah."
"Well, wanna— want to just hang out? I mean I've— I've missed you." He said, voice quieting down. "Before whatever happened earlier." He adds on.
Sapnap slowly turns around. He had now been sitting up, rubbing his eyes for a moment before looking at Dream.
"Sure. What do you want to do?"
—————
After a long discussion of playful bickering back and forth, they decided to watch a movie.
Dream went and sat down next to Sapnap, grabbing the remote and turning on the tv. Things felt normal, things felt fine.
That was until Dream laid down on the couch, resting his head on Sapnap's lap.
Sapnap flinched at the sudden action, Dream sat up in a split second. "I— I'm sorry did I do something wrong?" The blond asked.
"I mean no— I don't know it just shocked me." Sapnap said.
"Sorry," Dream said quietly.
"Wait no!" Sapnap sputtered out, "You don't have to be sorry or anything. I just— I don't know I thought you'd be uncomfortable. It's dumb— I know I just thought it was similar to what we—" Sapnap stops there.
Dream could almost hear the words come from his mouth, even seeing that he didn't finish.
It was similar to what we used to do.
That's what he would say.
Dream stood up, he wasn't going far though.
"Wait please don't go!" Sapnap said. "I'm sorry! You can lay down but please don't g—"
"Sapnap." Dream interrupted, turning around to look at the brunette. "Don't worry. Calm down. I'm only going to the bathroom," he said before walking off.
Sapnap sat there, heart pounding in his chest. He felt so embarrassed, the scared feeling that flooded his head now draining out in relief through long breaths.
He was too close to letting Dream get away again. Too close to messing things up again.
He's being annoying to Dream already, he knows it. He feels it in his chest, tightening every time he makes a wrong move.
He feels similar to how he felt earlier, when his knees buckled in and he felt so hopeless that he had to crawl on his hands and knees.
He feels like that same thing is approaching.
He didn't want to panic again.
"Breathe," he thinks to himself.
And before he knows it he hears a door open. Dream's back.
"You good? You look pale," he says.
He responds with a simple "yeah," watching as Dream starts walking back towards him to sit down.
Breathe.
"If you say so," Dream says, sitting down.
Within seconds, Dream repeats the action he did minutes ago. He lays down, letting his head rest on Sapnap's thigh. He leans his head back to look at Sapnap, Sapnap can only adore him.
"Is this okay?" the blond asks.
Sapnap nods without hesitation, "Yeah, I'm sorry about earlier."
It's only awkward if you make it awkward, Sapnap. Just breathe.
"It's okay." There's a pause before he speaks again, "Which movie did you pick again? Sorry I got distracted."
"Dr.Strange. I remember you haven't watched it," Sapnap says, to which Dream hums in acknowledgment to.
The atmosphere isn't as tense as it had been. Sapnap's chest isn't as tight anymore. Things don't feel as bad.
Sapnap still feels horrible for what he did, and what he did afterwards, and after that. But things start to feel better and it hasn't even been a day.
Don't fuck things up. Don't do it again.
He spent the time thinking about what he was doing. He'd remind himself not to move, making sure Dream stayed comfortable. He'd make sure he wasn't breathing too loudly, making sure he wasn't being disruptive towards the other.
And while Sapnap was busy trying to do his best for Dream. Dream was laying in fear.
He wanted to get closer to Sapnap again. It was like he had to learn how to put the pieces of a large puzzle back together.
He wanted to get closer, but was scared to get hurt.
He feared he would be stabbed in the back again. He feared that he'd see something he didn't want to see.
He knew Karl had been spamming his phone with messages, asking him if he's okay. But Karl didn't matter right now. He wanted to mend a broken relationship that he needed to be fix.
It was eating him alive. He didn't want to repeat mistakes. He didn't know if Sapnap had loved him yet or not. Because he had only realized in the midst of their relationship.
While now, there's nothing for Dream to compare to other than what he's seen in the past.
And maybe it would be wrong to be too cautious. But it also seemed too right.
