Scene 6: Lunch the Next Day
The scene is split, Travis and Sam are in the apartment together, and Jasmine and Asher are getting lunch. Lights down on Asher and they are up on Sam and Travis
Sam: ...and to put the cherry on top, we haven't said a damn word to each other since the gig. I don't think in the past seven years we have gone more than 8 hours without communicating in some way shape or form, and that's only because we can't talk in our sleep!
Travis: not a single word?
Sam: not even this morning! And now he's out on a date with Jasmine talking about possibly getting back together I just-
Sam collapses at the table that Travis is already sitting at
Travis: Do you want my advice, some trash talk to make you feel better, or a hug?
Sam: Advice. I want an outside opinion of this, I have absolutely no idea what to do.
Travis: To be brutally honest, what Ash is doing right now is such a dick move. Sure, he can blame it on being scared of losing you all he wants, but at the end of the day, he's not willing to fight for you. Not like you're willing to fight for him. And that is not fair to you. So unless he can prove to you that you are not only a priority in his life, but a priority worth fighting for, I think you need to distance yourself, and maybe let go. It's not fair to you for him to string you around like this.
Sam: ... He's my best friend. My co-worker, my bandmate, my damn roommate! How could I distance myself from him?
Travis: You could stay by me for a week or two if you think that would help the situation.
Sam: What about rent-
Travis: You're not moving out. Still pay for your own rent for this apartment with Asher, but come stay by me. You don't need to pay rent for me, you're just staying for a little bit.
Sam: I don't know..
Travis: Well, what's the alternative? You keep ignoring each other? You just avoid the situation? He constantly goes back and forth between the two of you, using you both? Sam, tell me a better solution and I say go for it, but what else can you do?
Sam: You make a good point there.
Sam's phone pings and he grabs it, hoping it's Asher. Sam flips the phone over angrily.
Travis: What? Is it Asher?
Sam: No, it's the bar manager from our gig last night. He loved our performance and wants us to perform again tonight.
Travis: Shit
Sam: What the hell do I do?
Travis: Can you perform by yourself? Just for the night?
Sam: And just cut Asher out completely?
Travis: Yeah. You have all your stuff recorded. Take out your part and play that live. Or leave the background vocal stuff you sing and just the lead and play drums. Or just sing live and leave all the instrument and background vocals in the background.
Sam: ... That last option might actually work.
Travis: People do singing acts all the time to background music. And would just be for one gig, and then you can figure out where you stand with Asher for the next one.
