Scene 8: The Second Gig

The scene opens up on the same place Asher and Sam had their first gig. It's just Sam and his computer to the side on a stool and some speakers and a mic. Sam looks incredibly uncomfortable.

Sam: Hi everyone, thank you for coming out tonight. Because of some complications that came up last minute, my bandmate will not be performing with me tonight. But I have some great songs lined up that I hope you will enjoy, this first one being-

The stage lights go dark, except for a small spotlight on Sam. Asher enters from the audience and a spotlight shines on him. There is a moment between Sam and Asher, and then he starts to sing.

Zone Out

Asher:

Asher works his way up to the front of the stage next to Sam. Sam is pissed. Get the audience snapping during the repeat of the verse. Asher should be looking Sam in the eyes almost the entire time unless he's getting the audience to snap.

Sam: I said I needed space-

Asher: I hurt you. I wronged you, and I thought the best way to make sure I didn't lose you was to give up on you, on us. Because I'm an idiot and because I'm terrified. I'm terrified by how much I care about you, terrified of what this world thinks about people like us, and terrified of waking up one day and not having you by my side.

Sam: Ash, you're making a scene-

Asher: We're gonna be making scenes our entire lives just from our very presence. But I'm not gonna let that stop me anymore. And I'm definitely not going to let it stop me from convincing you to let me sing with you tonight, and I'm not going to let it stop me from begging you, to give me another chance. To prove to you that you are my one and only, and that I would gladly walk into any battle this world gives us as long as you're by my side.

Sam: How can I trust you?

Asher: I've given you no reason to, and for that I am so, so sorry. But I hope this is a start

Asher gets down on his knees

Jawn: Yes!! Oh my gosh I didn't think he'd have the balls to do it-

Asher: I'm not proposing dipshit!!

Jawn: Coward!!

Asher: ... will you be my partner? Will you be mine and only mine and fight with me till the end of time?

Sam: This kind of sounds like you're proposing.

Asher: Not today. But I'd like to one day.

They stare at each other for a moment or two.

Sam: I'm still mad. And I'm gonna need time to cool down. And I don't know how long that is going to take.
