Scene 2: Work

The Scene opens up with Jawn and Asher at the bar serving drinks. Zakk, Travis, and Sam are waiting on tables.

Jawn: Dude, what is up with you today?

Asher: What? What um. What do you mean?

Jawn: I'm not an idiot. Something is wrong, and you're not allowed to not talk about it.

Asher: I... like someone

Jawn: Oh my gosh who, who, who, tell me, tell me, tell me!!

Asher: Jawn!! Shut up!

Jawn: Not until you tell me!!!

Asher: It's this guy, you probably don't know him.

Jawn: ... It's Sam isn't it?

Asher: SHUSH!! Shut. Up. Is it that obvious?

Jawn: To anyone who pays attention to you? Yes. To Sam? No, because he's too busy pretending he's not into you.

Asher: Sam's not into me.

Jawn: Yes he is.

Asher: Is not

Jawn: Is too

Asher: Is not

Jawn: Is too!!

Asher: Yeah yeah yeah, sure. What makes you think he likes me?

Jawn: The way he looks at you when you're not looking.

Asher: He doesn't- You don't- you don't know what you're talking about.

Jawn: Uh huh. Sure I don't. Tell you what: there's a bar down the road that's throwing a big party tonight. Go to it. Have you ever been drunk around each other?

Asher: No, both of us aren't big drinkers

Jawn: Well get a little tipsy tonight, and I guarantee you you'll have your answer.

Asher: I can't lose him. He's my everything. I can't- I won't risk losing him over something as silly as getting drunk at a party and saying the wrong thing.

Jawn: But don't you wanna know, for 100% sure, if he likes you or not? What if he does and you're missing out on one of the best relationships of your life?

Asher: What if he doesn't and I make him uncomfortable? Or worse, what if he does, we try going out, and then we break up and can't stand being in each other's lives?

Jawn: Isn't it worth the risk-

Asher: As a matter of fact, no, it's not. But damn, sometimes I wish it was.

Sam spills a cup and all the attention is now focused on him.

Sam: Oh, I am so sorry, let me clean that up really quick.

Sam cleans it up and goes over to Travis, who also looks concerned.

Travis: Alright, that's the third cup you've spilled today. What's crawling through your mind?

Sam: Ash

Travis: He's always crawling through your mind, naked and whimpering for you, so that's not new. I want to know what is bothering you?

Sam: same old same old. More flirty conversations that could be perceived two ways. Two best friends joking around, or two people hard core flirting with each other. But they're not even full conversations of it, it's just moments. Comments. It's weird.

Travis: Go get drunk with him. Then you'll be able to tell.

Sam: Neither of us are really into alcohol

Travis: Make an exception. This has been bothering you since I've known you. And how long has this been going on?

Sam: We've always joked around, ever since we were in middle school. But after Jasmine broke things off with Ash, the comments seem to have more... depth? I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

Travis: Shit dude, Jasmine broke up with Asher? You didn't mention that, maybe he's still on the rebound.

Sam: Shit, I didn't think of that.

Travis: Look, there's a bar down the street; it's hosting an event tonight. Let's call it a boys night and all go together. See if you can get a reaction out of him, drunk or not.

Sam: But what if I am just a rebound? I don't want just the next month with him. I want the next month, and all the months following after.

Travis: My dear poetic little shit of a friend, you'll never know if you never make a move. Worst case, just go have a fun night. You two have been working your asses off this last month.

Sam: .... Okay. Okay

Sam walks away and takes cups up to the bar where Asher is.

Asher: Hey you

Sam: Hey you. How's the shift going?

Asher: Better than yours from the look of all the glasses you've been spilling.

Sam: Haha, yeah, I'm just so tired... of working. We should do something fun tonight to celebrate our first month in LA.

Asher: Um, yeah, I heard there's a party down the road tonight.

Sam: Yeah, Travis was just saying we should all go to it and let loose a little.

Asher: Sounds good to me.

Sam: Perfect. I'll see you at the end of this shift

Asher: Try not to spill anymore cups Clumsy

Sam sticks his tongue out at Asher as he walks away. Travis and Jawn look at each other in a celebratory "Yes, we're getting our friends to finally hook up" kind of smirk.
