"Lindsey! Let's go!"

The middle Gilbert ran down to her big sister and smiled. "Jeremy!" Lindsey yelled out. "Let's go." She opened the door and stopped to see the one face she didn't want to see.

"Lindsey!"

"Hi, Uncle John. Bye, Uncle John." She said as she walked out of the house with Elena and Jeremy following her lead. The sisters shared a look wondering why he is back in town.

At school, Matt and Scott stood at the lockers with the sisters. "So he just shows up." Elena tells them.

"I don't trust him." Lindsey said as Matt put his arm around her. "I wasn't expecting to open the door and see him there. He acts like everything is okay when he disappeared after mom and dad passed."

"I always hated John."

"Everyone hates him." The two said.

Matt laughed at them. "Lindsey, thank you for everything you did for Vicki." He said causing Scott and Elena to listen to them. "I wouldn't have done it without you."

Lindsey smiled as he kissed her head. "Is Caroline still cooking for you and Scott?"

"She finally went to her dad's." Scott tells her.

Matt shut his locker and guided Lindsey to class. Elena and Scott shared a look not knowing what to say. Matt didn't want to talk much on his sister's death. Lindsey knew this as she was there by his side helping out. Elena was proven that Lindsey is the one he wants, not her anymore.

Scott watched Matt kiss Lindsey before she walked into class. "He loves her."

"He realized it's always been Lindsey." Was all Scott said as he got a text from Caroline.

Later that day, Lindsey was in her room looking at the dress she had picked out for the kickoff party. She heard a noise from Elena's room and went to check on her. 'Elena?"

"I'm okay." She said.

Lindsey gave her sister a look that says she didn't really believe her. Elena went to say something, but Lindsey walked away. She knew all the secrets, Lindsey and Jeremy were going to be upset when they discover the truth. The truth to what happened to Vicki and the truth to the mysterious death of the people in town.

Sometime the next day, Elena saw her sister reading and walked over to her. "Come with me and Jeremy." She says. "We need to talk."

Lindsey looked at her as she wondered what this is about. "Umm... sure?"

Elena smiled. "It's nothing bad. It's something you and Jeremy needs to know."

"Okay."

Jeremy walked down and hugged Lindsey before the three of them left.

Arriving at the lake, Lindsey looked at her sister wondering what it was she needed to tell them. "I'm adopted."

Lindsey looked at her shocked. "When did you find out?"

"Jenna. I'm sure mom and dad would have told me before they died."

Lindsey looked at her sister and smiled. "You may be adopted, but you are my sister still." She said as she checked her pockets to make sure she carried her money for a drink. "I'm going to get a drink."

"Sure." Jeremy and Elena said as she walked away.

"Alaric told me you are writing about vampires..."

Matt smiled as he sees the one person he has been hunting for. Lindsey Gilbert. "Let's dance."

"What's wrong?"

"A comment mom made." He said as Lindsey saw her sister dancing with Scott.

"What's going on with Stefan and Elena?"

"I don't know, but I just want to focus on you." He said causing her to smile.

Kelly watched as her son happily danced the night away with Lindsey. Matt leaned in and kissed her. Scott shook his head at them knowing that after tonight, things were going to change.

Later on, Lindsey was getting a drink when Matt walked over to her. "Care for a walk outside?"

"Fresh air sounds good."

Matt smiled as they went outside to see an unforgivable sight. Kelly Donovan and Tyler Lockwood in a heated make out session. Lindsey watched as Matt and Tyler fought causing her to step in. "That's enough!"

Tyler pushed Lindsey causing her to twist her ankle and fall as Kelly fell to the ground. "Lindsey?" Scott said as he went to his best friends side.

"Matt!" Lindsey said as Mayor Lockwood and Alaric stepped in.

Lindsey went into Matt's arms, but hissed in pain. Elena watched as Lindsey started cleaning Matt's face. "Are you okay?"

"I should be asking you."

"Just a twisted ankle." She tells him as he picked her up.

"Let's go."

Lindsey sat in Matt's room listening to him tell his mother the cold hard truth. To get out and that he can take care of himself. When she heard the door shut, Matt walked in. "I'm sorry you had to hear that."

"You only spoke the truth."

"She has till morning to be gone." He said sitting down. "Lindsey, with how things went tonight, I never got the chance to tell you that I love you."

"I love you."

Matt kissed Lindsey making her smile. She moved a bit closer to deepen the kiss. Matt moved his hands to the back of her dress and started to unzip it. They pulled back before they continued. Matt laid her down on the bed as she moaned.

Kelly heard her son and Lindsey before actually leaving. She ruined her chance to be a mother to Matt, his trust and her reputation.
