Kenshin awoke to an empty bed and panicked breathing. He shot up, hand on his chest. So many nights of his had been dreamless but ever since (M/n)'s return, he had many nightmares. They all involved (M/n) in some way, and in every single one of them, he died. Sometimes it was an enemy who managed to get a hold of (M/n) and murdered him before Kenshin's eyes, and other times, the male killed himself before Kenshin.
It made the warlord extremely restless and tense. He rose from the futon and pulled on his day clothes. He had to check on (M/n).
Once he pulled on his haori, he quickly rushed down the hallways of his castle. He was about to head for the dungeons when he noticed a maid was making her way towards him. . . It was one of Renko's close maids. For a moment, his panic was forgotten, and what replaced that feeling was grief.
He hadn't laid an eye on her body since his return. Her burial was. . . Today. . . He didn't know if he could truly cope with seeing the body. So far, he'd managed to mask how he was feeling because he didn't want his men to think that he was weak, but he didn't know how much longer he'd last if he saw his sister's corpse before him.
The maid came to a stop before him, bowing low. "What is it?" Kenshin queried in the coldest voice that he could muster. The girl slowly raised herself.
"The burial will be happening around the afternoon, Lord Kenshin." Kenshin didn't want to nod his head. It only made the reality that his sister was truly gone more real. He let out a hopefully inaudible shaky breath as he nodded his head.
"Understood. Thank you. . . For informing me. I shall be on my way." With that, Kenshin was gone. He quickened his pace, feeling a teardrop slide down his cheek. He scowled at himself and hurriedly wiped it away before descending down the dungeon's cold, stone staircase. His heart was still uneasy from the dream.
His dream today had been. . . That (M/n) slit his throat with Kenshin's sword whilst screaming scornfully to him. It made the lord so scared that he didn't bring his sword down to (M/n)'s cell. . . Even if the male had no way of grabbing it, Kenshin feared that some unknown force would somehow pass it to the boy so he could kill himself.
Kenshin finally stopped at the bottom of the steps. He glanced at the dark, cold cell, which was now crowded with furniture, books, scrolls etc. Kenshin had tried to make the small area a fun, liveable place for (M/n) so he became used to the cell and he didn't feel like leaving. . . However, the male continued to complain every single time he visited, demanding he be let out.
Kenshin couldn't do it. . . Every single time he thought of releasing (M/n), horrid scenarios of what might happen to the other flooded his mind.
He made the mistake of leaving (M/n) alone in the castle. . . He'd never do that again.
Nobunaga had done many cruel things to (M/n). . . The male had told him as time passed. . . The disgusting man put his hands on (M/n), penetrated him. . . He clenched his hand into a fist just remembering the way (M/n)'s voice shook with terror as he described his every moment with Nobunaga.
He wanted to start yet another war out of fury, but (M/n) pled him not to. He didn't want to cause any further bloodshed, and just. . . Wanted to leave it be. Kenshin hated to do this but he listened to (M/n). It was one of the only wishes out of the many that he could actually fulfil.
Kenshin moved a few paces forward. He managed to see (M/n)'s handsome face. The male sat in a corner of the cell, futon blanket covering his legs. He read a scroll in silence whilst petting a snow white bunny on his lap. Kenshin frowned when he saw the bags underneath the boy's eyes. He looked so tired, which Kenshin detested to see.
He wasn't sure whether to make himself known. (M/n) rarely wanted to talk to him nowadays. He said he would only speak to him properly once Kenshin let him out. However, (M/n) was the first to speak in a very quiet voice.
