(M/n) quietly sketched as he stroked the sleeping white rabbit next to him. He had lost count of how long he'd resided in these cells. He used to obsessively note down the days and dates but now he longer kept track.

He didn't see the use in doing it now. So, he decided to indulge in other things to keep his mind occupied. Nowadays, he tended to sketch or read. Though there was many things in this cell, there grew a limit on what he could do in here.

(M/n) was slowly growing bored of sketching but what else could he do? He'd read all the scrolls and books in here. It would be a while before Kenshin could order a new batch for him to go through. (M/n) stopped his pen for a moment.

His dull eyes became lost in thought as he remembered what the outside world was like. He missed looking at the skies. . . Inhaling the fresh air. . . He took his freedom for granted.

Kenshin rarely visited, which made him feel even more lonely. What did Kenshin hope to accomplish by locking him up like this and barely interacting with him? (M/n) was slowly being driven mad by the lack of excitement in his life!

It was the same thing every single day. He chose an activity, did it for as long as his body allowed, he then slept, woke up, did the same thing as yesterday. . .

He hated it. On top of that, he hadn't seen Chisana in a long while. The last time she had visited she looked so void of life it was almost like she was a puppet on strings. . . (M/n) had underestimated just how much love Chisana had harboured for Renko.

"How are you doing?. . . You better be taking care of yourself." (M/n) murmured bitterly to himself. What sort of person was he to let his lover lock him up like this?. . .

The male became alert when he heard someone coming down the steps. It could obviously only be one person. (M/n) usually would ignore the blonde but he no longer did. He craved attention and love. He couldn't stand to be in here all alone with barely any contact with anyone.

(M/n) immediately crawled over to the bars, wanting to get a good look at Kenshin's face. The warlord appeared so worn and tired. What was going on with him?

Kenshin stopped before the cells. His eyes, which were originally devoid of any light, gained a hint of emotion as their eyes met. He reached his slender fingers through the thick celled doors and he cupped (M/n)'s cheek.

"I am so sorry for my long absence. How have you been, my love?" (M/n) thought that his answer to the question was obvious. . .

"Same old, same old. It's grown quite boring in here. I've finished all the scrolls and books, and I'm running out of ink too." Kenshin listened attentively.

"I see. I shall have my men order in more books for your entertainment immediately." Kenshin retracted his hand. (M/n) tensed, thinking that this was the only interaction that they were going to be having today.

He was about to beg Kenshin to stay when the warlord unexpectedly produced the key to the cell. (M/n)'s eyes widened and he immediately shuffled back, thinking that Kenshin was going to be entering the cell so he could join him.

The blonde, however, did not enter. Instead, he stood at the entrance, hand outstretched to him. (M/n) frowned.

"What. . . Is it?" Kenshin's eyes were soft.

"Today is a special day, so I. . . Want to take you out. It won't be for long, but I believe you have been good enough to leave this place for a while." Am I hearing things?. . . Is he serious?! (M/n) tried not to expose just how excited he was as he rose on unsteady legs.

He heard no joking tone in Kenshin's monotone voice, so he decided that the warlord was being honest. But. . . What special day was he talking about? (M/n) hesitantly took the blonde's hand. He gripped onto it tightly once their palms touched.
