Sora tried not to let out a loud, exasperated sigh. How much longer would she have to feign this melancholia for her deceased father? She held a sleeve up to her eyes, hiding her face. She continued to cry softly.

Soon, she lowered her wettened sleeve. Her eyes, blurred with fake tears, met the concerned ones of the maid, who appeared clueless on how to react to the situation. Sora would be confused too if she were in her position. Lord Renko had rushed out of the audience chamber without a single order.

The maid awkwardly gave her a bow, taking her time in deciding what to say. Finally, soft-spoken words escaped her lips.

"Should I get the other maids to come and. . . Clear this up?" She questioned, averting her gaze. Sora shook her head, choking out a sob.

"C-Can. . . I be left alone for a while? I. . . I just want to be with him for a little longer before you take his body away." Sora whispered. The maid nodded.

"Of course, my lady. I shall do just that." The maid turned and scurried out, shutting the shoji behind her. Sora let out a small whimper. That whimper soon morphed into a morbid, unremorseful laugh. Once this sound left her lips, she couldn't stop.

She laughed so hard that her stomach hurt. The outcome of this meeting had been very unexpected to say the least.

Sora dabbed at her watery eyes as she turned to her father's headless body. She wasn't the least bit fazed. After all, she had witnessed her mother being slaughtered when she was much younger. She crawled over to her father's body, shaking her head with a look of mockery on her dolled-up face.

"Neither of us expected Lord Renko to act out like that, did we?" Sora chuckled bitterly, gently running her fingers over her father's unmoving chest. Sora had planned this all out. . . She was sure that this meeting would end up with her being in Lord Renko's arms!

A scowl made its way onto her lips as she thought about that dastardly maid who had the nerve to interfere. How dare she get involved! Things would've been a lot smoother if she hadn't done anything. It was going to be so much harder for her to reach her goal now.

Sora soon became quiet. Her dulled eyes stared scornfully at her father's corpse. What sort of man was he if he couldn't defend himself? Well. . . He was too nice of a man who never took up arms. It was a shock that he managed to take care of their small clan so well.

Her father wasn't really a scoundrel like he'd made himself out to be today. It was all just an act, to please his daughter. After the death of Sora's mother, her father spoiled her rotten. He gave her anything she desired. . . The only thing that he couldn't give her was the one thing that she wanted the most.

Leadership of the Pyra clan. Fate was cruel to Sora. She had to be born a girl. Being a girl born in this time meant there wasn't even a chance of her assuming leadership of the clan in the future. That role would always belong to a man. . . The Pyra clan were disappointed once discovering her gender.

At first, they went to great lengths to hide her away, since they considered her bad luck. But after being attacked whilst with her mother, Sora's father decided that she would be better off at his side. He probably spoiled her because he felt guilt for leaving his wife and daughter all alone once a son was born.

The clan rejoiced when Sora's brother entered the world. Seeing the excitement filled Sora to the brim with hatred. It made her desire to become a leader grow stronger. She wanted to show the people in her clan that a woman could lead a clan just as well as a man could.

She had asked her father only once whether she could take over leadership once he passed away. At this point, she dearly loved her father and thought that he would do this for her out of the kindness of his heart. Alas, he did not take the idea on board.
