During school on Thursday Oleander could barely concentrate. Her attention divided between ignoring Trent and mooning over Ian. Lunch went abnormally well, Rebecca having decided to be nicer to Trina as she was now part of their coven and Rebecca was worried that without her they wouldn’t have any power. Powers that the other girls knew they didn’t possess, but still hoped that maybe she was correct. They were going to try to practice some magic after the party on Friday. When they had made these plans Trent had rolled his eyes but they ignored him.
Pleasantly for them, Mark had brought over copious amounts of weed and enough alcohol to stock a bar. Trent had been tempted to talk to his old friend but he stayed out of sight, he was surprised to see how Mark had aged, he looked the same but bigger and hairier, it seemed to Trent that he wasn’t the only one stick stuck in his highschool ways, but he was the only one with a reason to be. The girls were preparing homemade chex mix and various other bar snacks. They had hidden all the valuable and cherished items and locked all the doors to the rooms people couldn’t go into. They even warned the neighbors that things may get a little loud, the neighbors all knew that Oleander didn’t do much and was generally a great kid, they were also aware of how worried the Jameson’s were about Oleander’s lack of socialization so they had all decided that they would turn a blind eye to the party, trusting that nothing would get too out of hand. The Holmes’ and the Stevens’ had even decided that they should use the night as an excuse to go on a double date.
Trent had scoffed at the two young couples who lived near the house that he had grown up in. They were naive to the ways of teenagers, clearly having forgotten how they were just a few years before. The four of them seemed to personify the small town persona, just thinking about them filled Trent with annoyance. While he told himself that the problem was the neighbors, he worried silently that maybe he was the problem. That he was upset that he and Oleander weren’t going to grow into those couples.
