twenty-three; THIS IS ALL I HAVE"We are going to Hogsmeade."
Lyra fell into step with Sutton, and she ignored the glare she received from a girl, who she'd accidentally knocked into on their way out of their History of Magic exam.
"Don't feel like it," Sutton responded while she shoved her papers into her bag. She moved to the doors leading to the grounds, wanting to spend the rest of her day lounging in the sun.
"No!" Lyra refused, "We deserve to have some fun, so a trip to Hogsmeade is much needed."
"Are we even allowed?" Phoenix questioned, appearing next to Lyra, who shoved him with a laugh when he threw his arm around her. He shouted in protest when he slipped on a patch of grass, and Sutton giggled as he barely stopped himself from falling on his arse.
"Yeah, fifth and seventh years only, and so long as we don't leave the castle or village bounds, we can go wherever." Lyra shrugged. The three spotted Professor Lupin by the lake with a group of third years and what appeared to be an obstacle course.
"That looks so fun," Phoenix exclaimed enviously as the trio trekked across the grounds. The temperature slowly began to drop as they moved closer and closer to the school's boundary.
"Maybe he'll let you have a turn." Sutton teased, laughing loudly at the glare she received in return as they passed through the gates, nodded at Filch, who scowled at them while they quickly rushed toward a free carriage where Sutton stroked the snout of the Threstal gently before she climbed into the carriage.
It didn't take long for them to arrive in the village, and when they did, Sutton was the first to exit the carriage. As Lyra got out behind her, a rustle in the bushes caught her attention, and she turned nervously, waiting for a Dementor or a mass murderer to pop out. That wasn't the case, however. A large dog limped from the bushes. It looked at Sutton and Lyra with wide eyes before cautiously walking toward them, whining as it moved.
"Hi there." Sutton spoke softly, crouching down as the shaggy dog stopped a few inches from her, whimpering softly, "I'm not going to hurt you."
She inspected him for a collar, and as her fingers grazed through matted fur, she felt how bony the dog was, and she frowned deeply. From her experience watching her aunt work, he wasn't a healthy type of skinny for a dog.
"Lyra, can you toss me my bag?" She called. Lyra didn't respond as she turned and leaned back into the carriage to grab the rucksack, dropping it on the ground next to her.
"Where'd the dog come from?" Phoenix asked when his eyes fell on the two girls who had crouched down behind the dog, Lyra scratching behind its ear and Sutton, who had turned her attention to her bag.
"No idea," Sutton replied. She rummaged through it quickly. and ignored her exam paper that was looking quite scrunched up, "Probably a stray."
She quickly found the sandwiches and a few bacon slices she had taken from the Hall after lunch and unwrapped all three of them, discarding the cling wrap into the front pocket. She placed the sandwiches and meat onto the pavement in front of the creature. He looked from the food in front of him and then up at the brunette as he cautiously sniffed it and then rushed toward it.
"I'm sorry that it isn't much." The dog began to devour the pieces of food, "But it's all I have."
Lyra quickly pulled a water bottle from her bag and placed an enlargement charm on the cap, and when it was at a decent side, she placed it next to the dog and poured the contents into it.
"Here you go, little guy." She cooed as the trio of fifth years watched as he began to lap up the water.

"I hope that the dog will be okay," Sutton murmured, taking a sip of her butterbeer. She thought back to the bony creature who looked close to death, worried that he'd be unable to find more food and shelter.
"I'm sure he'll be fine." Phoenix replied, "Strays are known to be quite resourceful."
"Maybe we can sneak back some food for him on the way back." Lyra suggested, "Or on the way to the train tomorrow."
"What are we talking about?" Fred asked as he and George slid into the boot on either side of Lyra and Sutton, the former of the two girls rolling her eyes when George smiled flirtatiously at her.
"The exams." Lyra replied, smirking as their faces dropped, "How'd you guys do?"
"Tragically." They replied in unison.
"I'm sure you both did fine," Phoenix assured the twins, ever the optimist. They both shook their heads with wide grins.
"Oh, no," George replied, his tone implying thought it would be very obvious to everyone. "We only did well on the subjects that we needed."
"We completely botched the rest." Fred finished for his twin as they stared at the three with identical grins, or at least, to most as Sutton noticed that George's smile was wider whereas a small dimple had formed in Fred's right cheek.
"And which classes did you need?" Lyra inquired, her dark eyes flashing with curiosity as she regarded the Weasley twins, who she had, very grudgingly, started to enjoy speaking to since Sutton had become friends with them.
"Herbology, Charms..." George started.
"...Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts," Fred concluded, ticking the classes off on his fingers as Lyra stared between the two with uncertainty,
"That's four classes." She exclaimed, "What on Earth could you possibly do as a career with only four O.W.L's if you managed to pass the ones you at least studied for?"
"We're going to open a joke shop." They answered in unison, amused by her doubt in their abilities.
"Excellent," Phoenix told them excitedly as Sutton, who had already heard about this dream of theirs, smiled at her friend's enthusiasm.
"You guys are going to be brilliant at that." She told them.
"We know, but thank you," George replied with a smile as he got to his feet. Fred only beamed at her, glad that she still thought it was a good idea, "Well, we only came because Fred wanted to see Sutton, so we're going to head off now."
Once George had hauled a blushing, spluttering Fred to his feet and the two had disappeared out of The Three Broomsticks, Lyra's lips pulled up into a smirk as she turned to her best friend, who was staring wide-eyed at the door.
"It's weird seeing a Gryffindor with a crush on a Slytherinx." Phoenix mused, "It's not something you see often? Or for this long."
"No." Lyra replied, snorting in amusement as they watched Sutton snap out of her trance and raise her mug to her lips, "A Slytherin in love with a Gryffindor. Who would've thought?"
Eyes wide in shock due to Lyra's insinuation, Sutton choked on her butterbeer. Violently, she coughed as she turned to face her friend, and she reached for the bottle of water resting at the top of Phoenix's bag.
"What are you going on about now? I don't love him. I barely know the guy." She stammered out through her coughing fit as she unscrewed the cap.
"Sure," Lyra murmured in response as she and Phoenix shared a smirk leaving Sutton to ponder her words, "You busy later?"
All thoughts of Fred completely vanished for the moment.
"No, why?" She questioned, "What alibi do you need?"
Lyra shook her head, "No alibi, I promise."
