three; THE PROPOSITION"I shall be seeing you in detention, Miss Sutton." Professor Snape drawled as his class of fifth years began packing up their belongings quickly, in order to leave before they somehow angered the Potions Master.
The brunette girl flashed him a sarcastic smile.
"Looking forward to it, sir." She responded brightly, her smile growing as she swung her book bag over her shoulder and flounced out of the room, quickly falling into step with a dark-haired girl who seemed to be waiting for her.
"It's the first week." Lyra deadpanned, and though looking rather unimpressed, her eyes told the story of her amusement, "How do you already have three detentions?"
Sutton grinned at her best friend as they linked arms and began their walk to lunch.
"It's a talent." She quipped, her head tilted upwards in an audacious fashion.
Lyra shook her head in as she glanced at her friend from the corner of her eye and the two began to talk quietly about their day and their plans for the weekend until they reached the Great Hall and a student reading the morning paper caught Sutton's eye and then her interest.
"So, what's the deal with this Sirius Black bloke?" She asked her best friend, who shrugged in an insignificant manner, rather fed up with the countless rumours that had been spread about the mass murderer because she had to deal with her uncle's irritation with it since news hit the papers.
"My uncle keeps going on about how he wouldn't have had the balls to join the 'Dark Lord' and betray his friends like he supposedly did." She said darkly as the two took their seats at the Slytherin table, "I mean, I will admit that he didn't use those words exactly but you get the gist of it. How have you never heard of this guy anyway? It's not like both of your parents are muggles, only Steven is."
"Mum doesn't really like talking about the war," Sutton replied after a moment of silence between the two girls, and it was true, there were few things in the world that her mother refused to discuss with her and the wizarding war just so happened to be one of those things, and through her aunt and uncle, Sutton had heard some things that had happened to her mother so she couldn't really blame the woman for not wanting to discuss the details.
"Lucky you, Uncle Lucius raves about it constantly." Lyra murmured as she stabbed into her food rather violently, glaring at the piece of chicken before she took a bite from it.
Sutton looked at her best friend and felt the familiar anger she did whenever the girl mentioned her uncle, either of her parents or any member of her family for that matter and as she dug into the food on her own plate she glanced up at Lyra, or more specifically, her hair, with a smirk.
"So, how'd your aunt like your haircut?" She questioned, using her only free hand to gesture at her friend's pin-straight shoulder-length cut, as opposed to the hip-length waves she had sported since they met.
Lyra's grin turned rather smug as she ran her hand through her dark brown tresses.
"Almost had a heart attack, I reckon." She replied brightly.
Sutton snorted.
"I can just picture it." She commented.
"You wanna know the funniest part?" Lyra questioned her dark eyes glittering with a large amount of mischief as he leaned in as if to share a secret.
As she swallowed her food, Sutton nodded as she gestured for her best friend to go on, quickly finishing last of the food on her plate.
"She sat there for at least three hours going through spellbooks trying to find the spell for hair regrowth."
"Wouldn't she already know it?" The brunette asked, brows furrowed, confusion lacing her tone.
"That's what I thought, but anyway..." Lyra trailed off as she dug through her bag before pulling out a piece of parchment that was ripped on the left side and crumpled slightly from being in the bag.
"You took the page!" Sutton exclaimed with a laugh.
Lyra nodded as she stuffed the page back into her bag with a grin.
"Though she was more pissed off over the fact that I had it done in a muggle salon." She said with a smirk.

A few hours later, nearing the end of dinner when a majority of the students had retired to their Common Rooms for the night, Sutton marched towards the ginger whom she had been searching for and took a seat at the Gryffindor table across from him ignoring both the scathing and the shocked looks that she was receiving from her 'rival' house.
She'd mulled this over for hours, and she absolutely detested asking for help, especially from a Gryffindor of all people. But, this just so happened to be her final resort.
"Where's your other half?" She asked curiously.
Fred Weasley watched her suspiciously, eyeing the her and Slytherin table with narrowed eyes. He knew that if it wasn't him and his brother pulling the prank, it was very likely that it was Sutton and Miller. They'd never outright pranked one another, but there was always a first time for everything.
"Detention." He finally answered after a moment, "Why?"
"I needed to talk to both of you but I'm sure you can pass this information along," Sutton told him.
"What information?" The ginger questioned.
The brunette laced her hands together on the table and grinned at him, a devilish gleam entering her grey irises.
"I have a proposition for you." She revealed after a beat of silence.
"A proposition?" He asked doubtfully.
"That's correct." The fifteen-year-old confirmed with a curt nod of her head, her curls bouncing with the swift movement.
"What kind?"
"The mischievous kind." Sutton replied instantly, as though it were obvious, "You see, I wish to prank Professor Snape but I do need some assistance."
"And you can't ask any of your friends for help?" Fred continued, still very confused and highly suspicious of why the Slytherin whom he'd only ever had one actual conversation with wanted his help.
"If Phoenix gets caught he'll probably be in detention until we graduate and Lyra doesn't care much for pranks," Sutton answered the Gryffindor brightly, "She prefers the more violent approach, as opposed to a humorous one."
Fred stared at her for a moment. He hated a lot of Slytherin's but he'd never actually formed an opinion on this particular snake. All he knew was that she was a phenomenal chaser and that Snape hated her guts, surprising for she was a member of his favourite house, he had never once failed her, as hard as he tried. He was quiet as he thought all this over until a smirk spread across his face.
"So, what does exactly this prank involve?"
Sutton beamed at him as leaned in as if sharing a secret between friends before she began telling the Gryffindor her plan.
