As November bled into December and snow began to blanket the grounds outside the castle walls, the fifth years that resided in Slytherin House began putting aside any differences that they had with one another and started helping each other in preparing for their O.W.L exams that were steadily approaching.
Lyra was being civil to Adeline Fawley for the first time since they were twelve, Sutton put her differences with Andrew Nott aside for the sake of her Herbology mark as well as her anger with Cassius Warrington who, in turn, was finally speaking to Adrian Pucey about something other than Quidditch, both Tatum and Merrick were speaking to each other for the first time since their break up over the previous summer, and Beatrice Johnson was finally talking to Phoenix rather than arguing over books or music or whatever it was they were fighting about that week.
"Hey, Fawley." Phoenix said, effectively breaking the silence that had fallen across the common room, "Can you take a look at my Charms essay?"
"Hang on a minute." She replied, not moving her eyes from the parchment in her hand, "I'm reading over Lestrange's."
He nodded, sliding over his essay to the blonde girl, before grabbing the Transfiguration homework from Warrington and looking at it for him.
"Can you please take a look at my Defense essay?" Sutton asked Merrick as she finished writing the last sentence, "It's utter rubbish."
"So long as you read over my essay for Potions." He responded.
The two exchanged pieces of parchment and Phoenix threw a quill at Adrian who glared at him in response before flicking a spare bit of parchment at him.
"When was the last time we all studied together?" Tatum inquired, glancing up at the nine other fifth years who each sat on the hard floor around the coffee table with their quills, inkwells, and pieces of parchment strewn across it.
"First year." Lyra intoned, "Before we all hated each other."
"I don't hate any of you." Sutton commented with a smirk, "Only Andrew."
The dark haired male rolled his eyes.
"You really didn't have to add that." He told her, "And you hate Warrington more than you hate me."
She flashed him a sardonic smile.
"Oh, but I did." She responded, choosing to ignore his comment about Warrington because she didn't hate anyone as much as she hated Andrew Nott.
"Well, I don't know about you guys." Phoenix announced, interrupting what would have turned into an ugly argument, "But, I feel rather good about passing most of my O.W.L's and come time for exams, I'll feel really confident about all of them."
Adeline sighed as she tossed her quill onto the table.
"I don't even think that the Ravenclaws have started studying for exams." She commented.
