Siddharth's POV :

The nightmare returned.

Ever since these new people walked into my life, I’ve been having that dream again about an accident and now, About that one girl. I still don’t know who she is—but I can’t take it anymore.

I jolted awake at 4 AM, drenched in sweat, chest heaving. No point in lying around. I dragged myself to the bathroom for a cold shower, hoping it would wash away the unease crawling under my skin.

Once done, I headed to the gym. My personal space. The one place I could burn through every emotion until I couldn’t feel anymore.

After pushing my body to the limit, I switched to a warm shower to soothe my aching muscles. Then got dressed: white hoodie, jeans, and my trusty high-top Converse. Simple. Safe.

I was about to sneak out without breakfast when my sister-in-law blocked the way, arms crossed and one brow raised.

"Where do you think you're going? Sit. Eat. Now."

I grumbled but obeyed. Not because I wanted to. But because you don't mess with her when she's in mom-mode.

By the time I stepped out, the world was still stretching awake. Vaishnavi and Abhishek were out for their morning jog, jogging side by side like the power couple they are. I watched them for a second, smiling faintly.

That... must be nice.

It was 7:30 AM. My class didn't start till 9, so I walked. Earphones in, volume up. Random happy songs played. But as usual, my mind wandered—to her.

Avneet.

I imagined her sitting in sunlight with her messy bun, earbuds in, head bowed over her notes. She was glowing in that warm light. My heart did this weird flip and I—

Okay no. Snap out of it.

I shook my head and pinched my cheek lightly to get my face back to neutral. People were already looking at me like I’d lost it.

By the time I reached the campus, I noticed a crowd had formed in the hallway. Curious, I pushed through—and then my heart dropped.

Avneet. Lying unconscious on the floor.

"Move!" I yelled, forcing a path through the crowd. Without thinking, I scooped her onto my back and sprinted to the infirmary.

"Nurse! She fainted—please, do something!"

The nurse rushed in, checked her temperature, and frowned. "High fever. I’ll give her an injection. Wait outside."

I did as told, pacing the hallway like a madman.

After a while, she came out and said gently, “She’ll be okay. The fever’s high, but manageable.”

"Can I take her home?"

She blinked, surprised. "Are you two... close?"

I nodded without hesitation.

She smiled. "Then yes. Take care of her."

I carried her out and got us a cab. She was resting her head on my shoulder, burning up. I held her tightly, whispering over and over, "You're okay. I got you."

When we arrived, her mom opened the door—and froze.

"Aunty," I said, breathless, "she fainted in the hall. Nurse said high fever. She's okay now. Just needs rest."
