It was evening, and college had just ended.
Siddharth decided to clean his room since his classmates were supposed to come over to work on the assignment. After tidying up, he stood back, admiring the neatness, when a knock echoed through the room.

He opened the door—to find Avneet and Rohan standing together.

He just stood there. Silent. Still.
Avneet waved her hand in front of his face, a little confused.
“Umm... are you not gonna let us in?” she asked, arching a brow.
He blinked out of whatever thought he was lost in and stepped aside. “Yeah, come in.”

They walked in and began unpacking the assignment materials, setting up at the desk. But Siddharth… he was somewhere else entirely.

---

Siddharth’s POV:

Why do I feel... weird?
Sad? Jealous? Or both?
I’ve never felt like this seeing Ashi with anyone else. But seeing Avneet laughing with Rohan—why does it get under my skin?

Before I could spiral deeper, Avneet waved her hand in front of me again.
I shook my head, snapping back. But honestly, I already felt drained.

---

They had barely begun discussing where to start when another knock came.
Siddharth, too tired to care, gestured for Rohan to open it.

To everyone’s surprise, Ashi walked in without even looking and immediately hugged Rohan.

I missed you so much!” she chirped.
Rohan froze, arms awkwardly raised like he was under arrest.
Siddharth chuckled, finding the whole scene entertaining.

Realizing her mistake, Ashi looked up—and gasped.
“Wait—ROHAN?!” she pushed him away, horrified, and then darted toward Siddharth, finally hugging the right person.

Babe, I thought it was you! I’m so sorry!”
It’s fine,” Siddharth patted her back. “Mistakes happen.”
She smiled and joined the group, pulling out her materials.

---

Two hours later, they were still working without a break—until everyone heard Avneet’s stomach growl.

She groaned, getting up.
I’m starving. Can we please take a break?”

Siddharth chuckled softly.
Ashi, watching him laugh, gave him a sideways glance.

What snacks do you want?” she asked. “Sid and I will go grab them.”

Just chips and coffee,” Avneet replied.
Same for me,” Rohan added.

The couple left the room, leaving Avneet and Rohan alone.

---

Rohan broke the silence.
“Hey, don’t you think Sid and Ashi’s relationship feels... performative?”
Avneet looked up, then nodded.
“Yeah, I noticed that too. He barely reacts to anything she does. Even when she’s surrounded by guy friends, he doesn’t bat an eye. Maybe he just really trusts her?”

Or maybe he just doesn’t care,” Rohan said with a shrug.
Avneet paused.
Some girls were saying Ashi comes from a really powerful background... is that true?”
Rohan nodded. “Yeah, she does. Why?”

Nothing,” Avneet muttered. “Forget it. Let’s focus on this next part.”

---

Half an hour later, Siddharth and Ashi returned with snacks.
Siddharth handed Avneet her coffee and chips.

She took them gratefully and started munching, energy returning with each bite.
After the break, they got back to work.

---

Avneet’s POV:

They really do seem like a couple—but then why does Siddharth only act weird when I’m around?
The jealousy, the anger… it’s only ever when Rohan’s with me.
No. It can’t be what I think it is.
Right?
Ugh, my mind’s a mess. Screw this.

---

By the time it was 10 PM, they had barely made it halfway through the assignment.
Rohan helped Avneet pack her things.

“Let’s go, Avneet.”

Siddharth shot another glare at Rohan.
At least zip her bag properly… and there, her pen’s on the table,” he muttered.

Rohan rolled his eyes, zipped the bag, and handed her the pen.

Avneet just stood there, watching the two boys act like rivals in a silent war.

Later, while sitting in the car on her way home, her phone buzzed.

Siddharth: “Come to my place again after 2 tomorrow for the assignment.”

She stared at the message, sighed, and left it on seen.

And just like that, the day ended.
Weirdly. Again.
