Vibha called Siddhart while he was out catching up with his old school friends. His phone buzzed in his pocket. He stepped aside and answered,
"Hello, Maa?"
Her voice was tight with worry.
"Sid, go to Ashi’s house right now and talk to her. Let me know what her mother says, alright?"
He nodded silently.
“Okay.”
The call ended, and soon, Siddhart found himself at Ashi’s house. Nandini opened the door, her expression unreadable. She stepped aside to let him in.
He sat stiffly on the sofa. One of the maids brought him a glass of orange juice. He took a slow sip before breaking the silence.
“Why did you call me here, Aunty?”
Nandini cleared her throat and sat down beside him, gently taking his hands in hers.
“Sid, you know how Ashi is... please, don’t say no to this wedding.”
He pulled his hands back immediately.
“I’m not ready. I have dreams, Aunty. My own plans.”
She nodded quickly.
“I understand. And you can chase every dream, Sid. Neither Ashi nor I would stop you. Just… marry her. That’s all i ask.”
He stared at her, confused and conflicted.
“I... I don’t know.”
Nandini suddenly fell to her knees, her voice trembling.
“Sid, please. My daughter—she’ll end her life if you say no. I don’t know what's going on with her... but I’m scared. She’s all I have.”
Siddhart stood up, shocked. He helped her up with shaking hands.
“Aunty... why are you saying all this?”
She looked into his eyes, desperate.
“Even if you want to leave her one day, I’ll support you. Just say yes—for now. I promise I’ll help you when the time comes.”
He stepped back, heart pounding.
“I’m not a guy who walks away...”
She clung to his words like hope.
“So? What’s your answer?”
A long pause.
And then, quietly—
“I’ll marry her. Tell her.”
He turned and left, the weight of his own words crushing him.

At Ashi’s Room:
Nandini walked in, her voice trembling.
“He said yes.”
Ashi burst into excited claps, squealing.
“He said YES? Maa, you’re the best mother in this whole universe! I LOVE YOU!”

Meanwhile, outside Siddhart’s house…
Rohan was waiting, leaning against his bicycle. When he saw Siddhart riding in, he stood up straight.
“Yo, what’s up bro?”
Siddhart didn’t even look at him. He shoved past.
“Go. I don’t want to talk.”
Rohan blinked.
“Just say it, man.”
Siddhart exhaled sharply.
“I said yes.”
“To…?”
“Ashi.”
Rohan’s mouth dropped open.
“What?! Why?”
“She’s my girlfriend, Rohan. I can’t let anything bad happen to her.”
Before Rohan could argue further, Siddhart walked inside, leaving Rohan behind, ruffling his hair in frustration.

Next Day at College:
Avneet was flipping through a book at her desk when she heard a soft knock. She looked up.
It was Siddhart and Ashi. Together.
She forced a smile.
“Are you okay?”
Ashi replied sweetly,
“Not yet, but I was too happy to stay home today.”
She reached into her bag and pulled out a fancy invitation card.
“We’re getting married soon. Do come, Avneet.”
Avneet’s hand froze mid-air.
They noticed.
“What happened? You’ll come, right?” Ashi insisted.
Avneet nodded slowly, face unreadable.
Siddhart’s eyes lingered on her for a second—full of something unspoken—before he turned away and walked off with Ashi.
---
Avneet’s Room:
She opened the invitation slowly, already feeling heavy in the chest. But when she unfolded it, a small chit fluttered out.
“I won.”
It read.
She rolled her eyes and tossed it aside. Her gaze fell to the wedding date—two days after graduation.
She sighed deeply, walked to the mirror, and stared at herself.
“What happened to me?” she whispered.
Then louder, to the universe itself:
“God, if you want me to give up on him… then fine. I’m leaving it to you. You decide.”
She washed her face and walked out, emotionally exhausted.

At Siddhart’s Home:
The house was in chaos.
Vaishnavi was stunned. Abhishek was furious. Vibha hadn’t said a word since the night before.
As soon as Siddhart returned from college, Abhishek pulled him into his room.
“Chote, what the hell is this?”
Siddhart didn’t even meet his eyes.
“Just… doing what a boyfriend should after all these years together.”
“Are you even in your right mind?”
“Yes. Avneet kept hurting Ashi. I can’t watch that anymore.”
Abhishek’s face fell.
“But you told Vaishnavi you liked Avneet…”
Siddhart laughed bitterly.
“That was just a phase. A crush. I saw her true colors—no more illusions.”
“Chote…” Abhishek tried again, “Avneet never did anything to hurt Ashi. You’re believing the wrong person.”
Siddhart shook his head and snapped,
“You don’t know anything. She’s manipulative.”
Abhishek stared at him like he didn’t recognize his brother anymore. He pressed his fingers to his temples.
“Fine. Do whatever you want. I can guide you, but I won’t fight you.”
Siddhart walked out, leaving behind silence heavier than anything spoken.
