Ashi’s POV
She locked the door behind her and dialed a number.
“Make sure the man is ready,” she said flatly.
The call ended.
A knock followed almost immediately.
"Betu, open the door."
Ashi unlocked it just enough to let her mother in—then locked it again.
Nandini frowned. “Why did you lock the door? The makeup artists are about to arrive.”
“I had some personal work,” Ashi replied, adjusting her dupatta.
Her mother’s eyebrow lifted. “What kind of work?"
Ashi turned slowly, folding her hands in front of her. Her eyes were calm. Too calm.
“Tonight,” she said softly, “if Siddharth does anything unusual… I’ll end him.”
Nandini froze.
Ashi continued, her voice steady, emotionless.
“If he can’t be mine, he won’t be Avneet’s either.”
For the first time, fear crossed Nandini’s face.
“Ashu… are you out of your mind? That’s a crime. He’s the man you claim to love—your future.”
Ashi tilted her head, staring at her mother like she was something insignificant.
“Yes,” she said simply. “I can do this.”
Silence swallowed the room.
Nandini looked away first.
“Sit,” she said tightly. “Don’t waste your energy. The makeup artists are here.”
Ashi nodded and sat before the mirror.
Moments later, the door opened again—this time for the MUAs.
Ashi smiled at her reflection.
Tonight, she would be a bride.
And someone else would bleed for it.
One of the MUAs spoke gently, “You should change first before we start the makeup.”
Ashi nodded without a word.
Her maid led her away to get dressed.
Soon, the room filled with brushes, palettes, soft lights—and silence that felt heavier than noise.
Author’s POV
Nandini stood frozen for a long moment.
Then her legs gave up.
She sat on the staircase, pressing her palms to her face, her shoulders shaking.
What kind of child did I give birth to?
A bride… or a devil?
Tears slipped through her fingers.
“Aunty?”
Nandini looked up sharply.
Vaishnavi stood there, concern written all over her face.
“What happened? Why are you crying like this?”
Nandini broke.
She pulled Vaishnavi into a tight hug, sobbing uncontrollably.
“Vaishnavi… I regret it,” she whispered. “I regret giving birth to a monster.”
