The walk was about as bad as I thought it would be. A heavy silence settled over the streets and we walked home. The breeze that was so nice a few minutes ago was now harsh and uncomfortable. I wrapped my jacket tighter around myself, suppressing a shiver. It was late and the lights in the windows were all off. If a villain attacked could I get away? Could I fight it? No, that would be suicide. Better to get away. Plus, I was too young to help with any fights.

"Well, here we are." Kirishima shook me out of my thoughts. I looked up at the familiar house, a huge wave of relief rushing over me. I turned to Kirishima.

"Thanks." He smiled.

"See you tomorrow."

"Yeah."

And a few moments later, I was safe within my own house. My mom was waiting in the living room. She came hurrying out as soon as I closed the door. She gave me a big hug.

"So," she prompted. "How was it?"

"It was alright." I took off my jacket, hanging it in the closet. My mom led me to the living room, sitting me down on the couch.

"Tell me all about it."

"Well..." I preceded to do so with her nodding and agreeing at various points. When I told her about Kirishima walking me home, she got a big smile. I honestly don't understand moms. Or, at least, my mom.

"Well," she said when I had finished, "that sounds like a very exciting night." She reached over and patted my leg. "You should probably get some sleep. It's late." We both stood.

"That sounds good," I said, stretching. I started for the back door, still wanting to sleep under the bushes.

"The stairs are that way, Y/n."

"I know, but...bushes." My mom raised an eyebrow, her hands on her hips, then sighed.

"Fine. But only for tonight. Leave your clothes in your room though."

I gave a little cheer and rushed upstairs quietly so as to not wake my dad. I closed the door, opened the window, and turned into a fox. Scrambling out of my clothes was still as awkward and undignifying as it had always been, but I did it.

The mulch under the bushes was still slightly warm from the day's sun. I dug around a little, making a more comfortable bed for myself, then lay down. Just a little splotch of red under the green leaves.

Monday came quickly. Soon enough, I was sitting in the first class of the day while everyone was talking and laughing, waiting for Mr. Aizawa to get to class. It may have just been my imagination, but it seemed like Kirishima was avoiding me. Then again, probably just my imagination.

Soon enough, the door opened and Mr. Aizawa walked in, carrying his yellow sleeping bag and a stack of papers. The class passed rather quickly. Mr. Aizawa was drilling us on some basic hero laws. Stuff that not everyone knew but was incredibly important.

The bell finally chimed, signaling the end of class. As everyone began putting their things away, Mr. Aizawa gave one final announcement.

"There's only one week left before your final exams begin," Aizawa said as he straightened a stack of papers. "I'm sure you're all studying constantly, right? Don't forget to keep training. The written exams is only one element. There's also the practice portion to worry about. Good luck."

Aizawa closed the door behind him.

People were immediately out of their seats, panicking about the final. Yao Momo set up a study group with a few other students and Kirishima obviously went with Bakugo. I was panicking a little too. I had completely forgotten about the final and had hardly studied at all. Yao Momo's group would probably be a good idea.

As I went over to talk to her about it, I noticed Kirishima and Bakugo fighting in a corner. Odd, Kirishima didn't usually fight with Bakugo. Their relationship was mostly just Bakugo yelling at him. Well, whatever it was, it was none of my concern.

Yao Momo got really excited when I asked if she could tutor me too. She went off on an absent-minded rant about various foods, most of which I had never heard of before. I had to go to Mina, who was also in the study group, to get the time and address.

At lunch, Midoriya was overthinking the test. Mr. Aizawa had said that the written portion would be a comprehensive review of everything we had learned over the year, but he wouldn't give any hints about the practical part.

As Midoriya was saying something, someone from class 1-B, a kid named Monoma, bumped into the back of his head. He started talking about the Hero Killer. I glanced over at Midoriya, Todoroki, and Ida.

That's right. They ran into him. Endeavor saved them, right?

Monoma began insulting them all. He seemed set on destroying class 1-A. He obviously thought he was better than them all. He tried guilt-tripping them next but a girl slapped him. He folded. Monoma's classmate Kendo apologized for him.

"Hey, I sorta overheard you all talking about the practical exam. Don't worry about it. A friend who's an upperclassman said it was combat against robots, like the entrance exam. I know, cheating, but..."

Midoriya was set off again, muttering about gathering information and the fine lines of rule-bending. Kendo looked properly disturbed.

Around that time, Monoma came too again. He started ranting about strategic advantages and getting ahead of class 1-A. I thought he was about as loony as Midoriya could be. Kendo knocked him cold again and dragged him away. That stopped MIdoriya's muttering.

Back in the classroom, Mina was relieved.

"It's just going to be robots. This is going to be super easy."

"Yeah," Denki agreed. "We'll all be able to pass."

"But you guys both have trouble with your quirks," I said.

"We don't need to worry about hurting anyone with robots. We can let loose!"

Bakugo picked up his bag. "You morons shouldn't hold back with robots or people."

Denki took offense at that and Bakugo started shouting at him. He turned on Midoriya and his anger turned cold. He stopped shouting, his threats were growled instead. He issued a challenge to those he deemed the biggest threats: Midoriya and Todoroki, then he was gone.

Kirishima watched him go. "He hasn't been that bad in a while."

Tokoyami crossed his arms. "You think it's impatience or hatred."

I watched Kirishima. He seemed genuinely worried for Bakugo. He cared about his friend. That was... nice. Kirishima left a moment later, following the path Bakugo had taken. For a second, I wanted to follow. I wanted to have a friend like that.

I shrugged to myself. Life was life and this was my lot in it. There was no point in being sad about it. I had training to do for a life I wasn't sure I wanted to live.
