I woke up quite suddenly. I was sitting up in bed, completely clueless as to what had caused me to wake up. I reached up to scratch my head and groaned when I saw that it was a mess. My blankets and pillows were strewn across the floor and I was in a strange position. I must have moved around a lot in my sleep.
I sighed as I swung my legs over to the side of my bed. I had forgotten to close my windows the night before so my room was pretty cold. I stood up and almost fell over because of a blanket. I groaned again and picked it up, throwing it onto my bed. I decided it would be better to get the mess off the floor, for now, I picked up all the pillows and blankets and put them on my bed. I needed up cleaning up my room for no reason.
When I was more or less done, I changed into some clothes and did my morning routine. It took me forever to brush my hair as basically all of it was one huge knot. I made my way downstairs after mentally preparing myself for a very long silent treatment only to be surprised by my mother waltzing around the kitchen. I stood on the threshold and watched her dance around the room while drying dishes and putting them away.
"Um, mom?" She looked up when I spoke and smiled.
"Y/n, dear! How are you? Come eat. I'll make you some eggs." I hesitantly made my way over to the table and sat down. A minute later, my mom set down a plate of bacon and eggs and a cup of juice. After that, she continued to dance around the kitchen, doing her various tasks. When I was about halfway done with the food, she poured herself a cup of coffee and sat down across from me.
"Um, mom?" She hummed in response. "Are you okay?" She looked up, obviously confused. "What I mean is, why are you dancing around and why do you seem so happy?" She took a sip, merriment dancing in her eyes.
"And why shouldn't I be happy?" I paused and thought back to the night before then shrugged.
"I dunno. You just seem happier than usual."
"Ah," she said simply then continued to sip her coffee without elaborating. I groaned with frustration.
"Mom. What's going on? Why are you so happy?" She smiled at me from behind her cup, clearing thinking that she had won.
"Well dear, some neighbors recently moved, before the school year started, and we invited them over for dinner tonight since it's Friday." Now it made sense. My parents loved having people over, especially my mom, but they didn't get to very often because I never really made any friends and I never liked people. However, I didn't understand why she seemed quite so excited. I took a sip of the juice as my mom continued.
"And, they have a boy your age." Juice spurted all across the kitchen. "Oh, Y/n, was that really necessary? Oh dear, here let me..." I helped her clean up the mess. I didn't like girls my age. They were usually jerks that hated you no matter what you did, but boys were worse. Especially since lately, my mom had been obsessed with finding me a "special someone" as she put it. I finished eating quickly, after cleaning up, and went up to my room to do my school to get out of that awkward conversation.
As the day neared its end, I landed on the soft grass outside my window. I trotted off to the tree, not really paying attention to where I was going. I was a little later than normal so, on the way there, I recognized some voices.
"So you'll be ditching us tonight?"
"Yeah, sorry. Our neighbors invited us to have dinner."
"That's too bad. We were all gonna go over to Mina's house. She said that her parents said that she could have a party with the whole class."
"That would've been fun. Maybe we can do something Saturday?"
"Maybe. Anyways, how old are your neighbors? Are they like grandparents?"
"No, they're about the same age as my parents, I think, but they have a daughter my age." With this, they rounded the corner and I saw Kirishima, Bakugo, and Kaminari walking together. Kirishima and Kaminari had been the ones talking so far.
"Ooh, have you meet her before? Is she pretty? Would I have a chance?" Kirishima gave his friend a concerned look then answered.
"No, I've never met her before or seen her. Their family likes to keep to themselves so I don't know much about them."
"Pity." They walked in silence for a moment "Hey. I didn't see the fox today. Do you think it forgot about us?" Kirishima shook his head.
"No, I doubt it. I was walking home from Bakugo's place last night when it came up to me."
"So, maybe it's late?"
"Or maybe it was shot." The two stared in horror at Bakugo.
"That didn't happen...right, Kirishima?" Kirishima shook his head and gave a small smile to the worried Kaminari.
"Bakugo, don't do that. It's not cool. Hey, look!" Kirishima had spotted me and was now pointing.
"It wasn't shot!" Kaminari yelled joyfully. If I could, I would've rolled my eyes. Kirishima and Kaminari walked over to me and started petting me as Bakugo stopped to wait for them.
"Do you think your neighbor likes foxes?" Kirishima sighed.
"I dunno, but I'm not gonna force this little guy to come with me."
"I wasn't suggesting that! I was just asking...mostly." A heard a 'tch' noise come from behind the two and Bakugo walking off. The two hurried to catch up, leaving me behind. I almost felt sad, but then checked myself and trotted off. Alone was good.
