Twenty Five

"Good morning!" I chirp when Luke enters the kitchen.

"Up so early..." He says as he pours himself a cup of coffee

He's dressed in his usual formal suit, no tie, and his delectable fragrance fills my nostrils.

"Yeah, umm-I was thinking..." I approach him and place my empty cup in the sink.

"Since I'm done with the finals, maybe I should start the training course you mentioned..." I say and he maintains the eye contact, which was something he got better at doing recently. Instead of just avoiding me or frowning at me.

"Alright then." He nods.

"So, when do I start?" I ask.

"What fields are you most interested in?" He asks.

"Umm-I'm majoring in finance management." I reply.

"You could start now." He offers.

"I'll have someone show you around first, and then take you to the finance department. You'll meet up with the head manager there and he'll discuss the training with you." He summarizes.

"Okay, will you wait for me while I get dressed?" I ask.

"Micah can take you." He says.

"I'll only be five minutes..." I insist.

"Fine, hurry." He drains his cup impatiently, pulls his phone out from his inner pocket then walks outside.

I change into my only formal outfit, the one Luke picked out for me. I had no other choices, but at least I now knew what I had to go shopping for...

Instead of shaping my hair in an updo, I let it hang down and restrain two strands from each side with two little pins at the back of my head.

I hastily apply some make up and leave before Luke leaves without me.

"Five extra minutes won't hurt." I say as I get into his car.

He doesn't comment. He starts the car and drives out.

"Emma Kent." I shake Mr. Pride's hand.

"Alright, you know what to do Ben..." Luke tells him and excuses himself.

I reach for him before he retreats.

"Wait-" I tap on his shoulder.

"What is it?" He asks.

"How am I going to-" I start to say.

"Call me when you're done. Don't leave unless I call back or send Micah to pick you up." He says then starts walking away again.

"So, Emma, I am Ben Pride, I'm responsible for this department. I heard you're almost done with your degree, I'll suppose you have a good lot of knowledge about everything concerning finance management, taking into consideration the impressive presentation that you gave last week." He says and I smile at him genuinely.

"Yes, I was there, lots of managers from our company were there too." He informs me.

"Let's get to the nitty gritty, shall we?"  He ushers me into a control room and we start from there.

He explains to me how everything functions around here and that a part of my training will recommend that I give a full report of the method of how things go.

I was interested, kept an open mind, a perceptive look, and a determined demeanor.

"He also told me all about the future financial strategy that the company is following. It is brilliant I must say!" I inform Luke eagerly.
