"Hello,", shake, shake, "Hello...?", shake. I jolt awake, and look up, to see a boy with gray eyes and brown hair, of which was hanging in my face, trying to shake me awake.. "Mornin'.", Sodapop says, smiling brightly. My eyes widen, and I feel my cheeks flush, as the butterflies in my stomach begin to flutter. "G-Good morning...", I say, in embarrassment. I try collecting my thoughts, and once I do, I look over the counter, to see that no one else is sitting in the waiting area. "Where... where is everyone else?", I ask, perplexed. Sodapop follows my eyes. "Oh, Steve and Darry had work, and Two-Bit got kicked out for stealing food from the cafeteria. I should probably be working too, but I wanted to stay here for Pony.", he says. I nod, before looking at Sodapop. "You're Sodapop Curtis, right? From the DX Station?", I ask. Sodapop smiles. "Yeah I am, but most people call me Soda.", he says, holding out a hand. I giggle, shaking his hand. "Nice to formally meet you Soda, I am Zara-Mae Valance, but most people call me Zara.", I reply. "Cute name, Zara-Mae. You Cherry's sister?", Soda says flirtatiously. I blush, but flirt right back. "Yours is cuter, Sodapop. And yes, I am.", I say, leaning on the counter. Soda smiles, before saying, "So, to pay you back for last night, what can I get you for breakfast?". My eyes widen. "Oh, Soda, you don't have to...", I say, my voice trailing off. Soda shakes his head. "No, I want to. Now, what can I get you?", he asks, repeating himself. I sigh. "If you insist, fine. Could you get me a piece of double chocolate cake, and an iced raspberry tea?", I ask. Soda smiles. "No way, you too?", he exclaims. "What?", I say, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Soda laughs, before saying. "I love chocolate cake, especially for breakfast.". I laugh, as Soda starts to walk towards the cafeteria. My mind begins to wander, so when Soda appears on the other side of the counter, it takes me a minute to register it. "Thank you, Soda.", I say, as Soda takes a seat in the waiting area, eating his own chocolate cake. Soda takes a bite, before looking up at me, and patting the seat next to him. "Come eat with me.", he says. I hesitate for a moment, before giving in. "Okay, I guess.", I sigh, allowing a smile to captivate my face.

"So, Soda, how come I don't see you around school?", I ask. Soda and I finished eating a while ago, and have been talking nonstop. Soda looks up at me, his face blank. When what I said finally registers, a look of recognition takes over his face. "Oh, uh, well,", he says, "I dropped out. To be honest, I've never really cared for school, so I gotta job.". I nod. "Oh, well... school's not for everyone, I guess...", I say, awkwardly. For a moment, we sit in silence, me playing with my hands, and Soda looking everywhere but at me. Finally, Soda breaks the silence. "Well, I'm gonna go see Pony, if ya wanna come.", he says, standing up. I snap out of it, and look up at Soda with a smile. "Sure, I'll go.", I say, getting up myself. We walk down the hall silently, before entering Ponyboy's room. I stand in the doorway, as Soda walks over to Ponyboy's bedside. "Hey, little brother. How are you? I am doin' fine. Did'ya know Cherry has a sister? She's pretty cute, ya know. Makes me forget about Sandy.", he says. I blush, before confusion rushes through me. 'Who's Sandy?', I wonder, before deciding I 'd ask him later. This moment is too precious to interrupt.
