I sit in my office chair staring out the large window that sits behind my desk. I watch people scatter around in their cubicles, some running from desk to desk, some hurriedly typing away on the computer.
My door clicks open and the girls walk in. "Why didn't you go to school? At this point everyone thinks you dropped out" Ruby snorts.
"I had things to deal with. I'll go back next week." I respond.
They all find a seat to sit down. A big sigh is released from them. "You don't understand how tense it is everywhere" Jade speaks.
"Yeah, another shipment was attacked and we lost seven men. Jerry has been spitting out orders like canon fire since," I start. "Speaking of orders, our two days are up, so we get our orders today."
Everyone looks around at each other. "So how likely are we to die?" Jade whispers.
"Hm. 60% chance, according to the analysis team, but I say less. After all look at who we are." I retort.
I stand up out of my seat and make my way to the door. "Anyway, I have a quick meeting with the boss. Just chill here and I'll come back when I'm done." And with that I walk out.
Making my way down the long dark halls, I watch each person who walks by me. I come to a stop in front of large doors. My knuckle meets the door causing two knocks to resonate throughout the hall.
"Come in." A gruff voice says.
I push the door open and make my way into the room. Jerry sits behind his desk staring deeply at some paperwork. "Sit." He orders.
My feet carry me to the chair in front of him and I gently sit down. "You requested to see me?" I ask.
"Yeah, with everything getting so serious I'm going to have take things up a notch. Over these next few months a bath shall be ran. And this bath will be filled with blood. And we will not stop, even if the bath overflows. Normally we kill those who are paid and try to avoid children, but now everyone shall die. Innocents, children, enemies, if their in our way they die. Do I make myself clear?" Jerry barks.
"Yes," I say while bowing my head.
"I'm also worried about us having rats. So, I need to make sure that people will stay loyal and not bitch out on us. That includes your girls."
Why would they bitch out? They've been doing this job long enjoying and yet he still holds no trust in them. I silently listen and instead of arguing I just nod my head.
"You have by the end of the day to show me that they are loyal. If they fail I will personally kill them one by one. Understood?"
"Yes sir, I will see to it that the girls are loyal and prepared for the upcoming war." I submissively say.
Jerry stands up and walks to my side. His hand makes it way under my chin and he lifts my face so that I'm staring him in his eyes. A small smile slithers on his face.
"I know you would never betray me Scar." His hand then moves to pat my head. "You are the daughter I almost had. I'm sure you know that before you were born my wife and daughter were killed. And then a few months later you were born. It was like my daughter was reborn into you. You are my miracle. I may be your uncle, but I raised you like a father would. You are invincible, strong, condescending, everything a perfect soldier should be. I'm so proud of you." He rants.
"I still remember the first time you were dragged into the program. Young and scared as my men in white carried you into the compound. Since then I have watched your flourished. I love you like you are my own daughter and nothing will ever change that." He grips my shoulder.
"Stand up."
I follow his order and push myself to my feet. Even in heels I still have to look up to Jerry. "Make me proud." With that he turn around and waves me off. I leave with a nod and as I step out his office a man in a black suit is walking down the hall.
What perfect timing.
"Hey," he stops walking at my voice. "Prepare a room on level six with four people. I want them all to be children, grab them off the streets if you have to. I want them tied, blindfolded and gagged. Then I want you to bring four other men with you and bring four guns. Make sure a camera is set up in the room. You have two hours come get me when you are done."
The man bows slightly at me and walks off. A heavy sigh leaves me and I shake my head. They are going to hate me after today, but I need to do what has to be done. They'll come to understand my actions and that I only do what I do to protect them.
Making my way back to my office I find everyone still sitting there talking. "Yo, how the meeting go?" Cassy ask while throwing a ball in the air. I shrugged and walked to my desk.
I pick up a packet that wasn't there when I left. "Riz stopped by and said it's important that you go through that" said Mika while being nose deep in a book.
I sigh and sit down. I scan the first page. Weapon and uniform change.
Great.
The entire packet was a confirmation of new uniforms and weapons for my team. It detailed what everything was equipped with and their usage. I'm guessing Jerry sent in this request because I did not.
The last three pages discussed the uniform change for everyone. Those of high ranks, B rank and above, like my team would have customized outfits whereas those of lower ranks would wear the same outfit depending on rank. The men in white. who were in charged of training, would remain in white.
Men in black, who were personal guards and lackeys, would stay in their suits.
Those of any C rank would wear all navy blue. D ranks would wear gray, and E ranks would wear red. All C, D, and E ranks would acquire makes that covers their entire face.
Looks like Jerry is getting serious about everything.
A knock soon resonates throughout the room and tell the person to come in. The man from earlier peeks in and tells me what I requested was ready.
"Great, Cassy, Mika, Ruby and Jade," they turn to face me. "Follow me."
We take elevator down to the sixth floor and I lead them into a dark room with a single light in the center. Four crying children are kneeling in the floor, gagged and tied as per my request.
"What. The. Fuck." Rube mutters.
I pull out my gun and fire it into the ceiling. The children jump at the sound and cry harder. "Let us begin." I walk over a child and kneel in front of them. I rub his hair to calm him and make a shushing sound. "Now now children, you should of known better than to talk to strangers hm? If these ladies here follow my instructions then you will have a quick and painless deaths."
"Scar what the fuck are you doing I thought we don't harm children!?" Screams Jade.
Such an annoying voice.
"Well now we do, everyone grab a gun." The other men in black bring out a gun and hand each girl one. "Alright now line up in front of the children."
"No." Grits Mika, "I refuse to harm kids."
I lift my gun and point it at her. "I said line up. Do as I say or I'll drag you by your hair kicking and screaming and slowly rip off every fingernail you have. Do I make myself clear?" I calmly respond.
Mika gulps and stands in front of a child.
"Scar, think about your brother, what if he was one of these kids?" Cassy pleads.
"My brother is already dead, he already was one of these kids. Now do as I say. Raise your guns."
They all point their gun at a child. They shake. I can't believe it. My team is letting emotions get to them. I've been too easy on these girls, something like this shouldn't shake them up. They should put on a facade and pretend not to care. They should follow orders until the very end, no words spoken back.
"Great. Now shoot."
