Flying

Peter had always loved flying, he didn't remember a time before flight. So as he made his way over New York to Manhattan island he was happy. His fingers hung loosely at his sides as he soared like a majestic bird, letting the wind move him. His eyes were half closed as he soaked up the sun through the thin layer of clouds. He even hummed an old song until he got to where he wanted to go. But he got bored rather quickly and wanted more. New York was definitely interesting but not as beautiful as Neverland. That got Peter to thinking, is any place as beautiful as Neverland?

It had been almost two weeks of shelters and wandering New York stealing food where he could, but he needed a job. He saw all the 'Help Wanted' signs come and go from windows and figured he could probably get a job rather quickly but he didn't really want a job.

"Hot dogs, get your hot dogs here!" A tall man with a long mustache called from the end of the path. Peter's stomach grumbled on cue. He took out his bag and dumped the contents onto the floor.

"Money, money, money..." Peter repeated looking for something so give the hot dog man. Peter walked up to the man, his worn shoes and tattered shirt made the man's face drop.

"Now listen kid," the man started before Peter even opened his mouth. "If I give you a hot dog for free and word gets around that I'm giving freebies to homeless kids, I will go broke. You hear me?" Peter nodded slowly, he still clutched the few coins he had in his dirty hands. "I'm sorry kid." The man seemed sincere and Peter was too tired and down on his luck to argue his statement, so he tried a different approach.

"I understand sir," Peter looked down sheepishly to his feet, "I only have a few coins but I do understand..." Peter opened his hand revealing only half of his coins. If the man was kind, as Peter had hoped, he wouldn't take all of Peters money. "Have a nice day..." Peter started to turn to leave. He could only hope that his broken voice would compel the man to give him some food.

"Wait, wait, kid come here." The hot dog man said waving a hand towards Peter. Peter smirked, but as he turned around he kept his face sad and hungry. "Let me see what you got," he gestured to Peters money filled hand.

"It is not much sir, but it is all I got."

"Oh, well let's see... How about I take this nickel and you tell me what you like on your hot dogs? How does that sound?"

"Thank you sir, thank you." Peter handed the man a nickel.

"Now what do you like on your dog, young man?" Peter thanked the man again as he left with his hot dog overflowing with every topping.

But with only a few dollars' worth in coins Peter knew he couldn't get enough food to last him long here. So Peter needed a job again if he were to stay in this very expensive city, so that's what he did. But Peter wasn't good at keeping to schedules and was quickly fired from each job he acquired, but he didn't care.

Once fired, he took that as a nudge to leave his current residence. Peter traveled all around the United States and then went down south, he saw animals that belonged on Neverland. A kangaroo, held its baby in its pouch. The lost kids would love to have kangaroo races, sitting in the pouch as the animals ran through the forest. And armadillos, Peter was amazed by them. He rolled one down a hill, chasing after it and the creature became like a ball unable to stop until the ground was flat again. So many creatures that the lost kids would have to much fun with...

Peter hated to admit it, but most of his time was spent thinking about Neverland and his friends. Most of his time trying to grow up consisted of taking notes on what he would like to bring back to Neverland. He also considered what Tinkerbell might like, gathering and collecting trinkets for all the lost kids. So when Peter finally decided it was time to go home, he felt relief and also despair. He was happy to go home but he liked this new adventure. Sure it was hard at times, a lot of the time really, but it was an adventure unlike any other.
