Chapter 8 - Special Day

The sun had risen up and so had August. Last night's good sleep had energised him.He was fresh and confident today.
Today was the day he looked forward to as much as he hated it. It only reminded him of his father's absence. He didn't want to imagine how the people of the kingdom would react. Will they be able to digest this news of their king's passing?
Would they accept him as their new ruler? Would there be fatal difficulties in his way of establishing himself as a rightful ruler?
He didn't know what was going to happen and didn't want to think about it as it will only make him nervous. Right now he knew that the kingdom was in need of a ruler , to guide them and care for them . He was going to become one , he had his mind set on that. He definitely could not leave the future of the citizens in the hands of the selfish maggots that were dead set on defamation of the demon race.

August walked into the courtroom making a grand royal entrance. All the courtiers bowed to him .

" Long live the prince!"
" May the prince be good fortune!" etc were yelled out.
August had to raise his hand to stop the cheers.

As the atmosphere calmed , August took a seat near the main throne. It was the last day he'd be sitting on the prince's throne.
Tomorrow was the coronation ceremony, after that everything would change everything. His responsibilities would increase and more enemies will be made.

" Alright, please take your seats everyone.
Shall we check on the schedule of announcements to be made?"
August asked the vizier.

" Yes, Your Majesty. The soldiers dispersed today will first convey the news of the king's passing in the afternoon.
Shortly, in the evening, invitations for the coronation ceremony will be handed out to every respectable individual. We have made sure to avoid any shortcomings there."
Vizier Khan replied.

" Hmm, and ......... the arrangements for the same? Are they completed?"

" Yes , they are ; Your Majesty."

" Then what about our backup plans? I mean, there is a chance of a potential outbreak. What measures have been taken for that? "

" Well , we do not expect a riot or outbreak right now, Your Majesty.
And we've also chosen a couple hours difference between both the announcements so as to prevent any protest.
It will be enough to provide for a reasoning behind the rushed decisions and hence block out the scope of thoughts of the people."
Vizier Khan explained.

" Hmm, then i believe things will go smoothly as per plans. You have the responsibility, Vizier Khan."
August said after a brief pause.

" As per your wish, Your Majesty! "

After , talking about the schedule, the court discussed about topics of the provision of foodgrains, employment of the youth and the protection of the kingdom's borders.

" Gentlemen, i know that it might sound abrupt but if possible , i would like to have a tour of the main town.
Any objection on that? "
August asked with nervousness.

" Certainly not , Your Majesty! The royalty is free to do as they please. If it's for our people , then i suggest it's even better."
Advisor Roy explained.

" Good , then as we have completed discussion on all the scheduled topics , the court for today is dismissed."
August said and he stood up and began to walk away.

As he came out of the court's premises, he saw his friend Theo waiting for him.

"Ah! August, i heard you are going to the town! Is that right? "
Theo asked with a smile plastered on his face.

" Hmm, yeah , what about it? "
August who had stopped had now resumed walking.

" You see , there's gonna be so many pretty ladies there , right?
So I was wondering if i could accompany you? "
Theo said though the last part came out more like a question than a statement.

When August didn't reply , Theo got nervous.
"Hey, listen to me once, huh! I am so damn bored here in the palace.I.......just ..... just need to... look at some beauties to regain my lost sanity "
Theo said still following August.

" No, you want to act as a informer for the palace people"
August corrected him.

" What!"
Theo's cover was ruthlessly blown.

" Huh, you are right but not completely right, i mean i was told to look after you!"
Theo admitted.

" What for? I am no child to get lost in the town streets , neither am I attacking someone nor is anyone else.
I don't see the reason for this excessive concern ."
August replied in a fed up tone.

" That's not it , August! It's not long after the king's passing and we are in a vulnerable state now.
It's too risky for you. To walk out of the palace gates alone is a foolishness on it's own. You did this on the other day too! "
Theo said now in a serious tone.

August stopped suddenly and turned around.
There was sadness in his eyes.

" It's not about the risks of going there , Theo. I know myself that I am more capable and responsible for protecting myself.
It is my duty as a prin- i mean a future king to look after the welfare of my people. You are correct, we are in a vulnerable state right now without a leader. It's because a king is a father to his people.
You yourself know what it's like to lose your only parent .The pain and grief of the people after hearing the news will be the same as us Theo.
I want to share their pains and grief.
I want to take us out of this vulnerable state. To do that I need to be a better leader .More specifically, a better FATHER
Because it hurts Theo and you know it does! "
August stared at his friend for a moment and turned around to go again.

Theo knew what he said was true. But that didn't mean he would leave his friend in potential danger .
If August was being irresponsible, he had to take his responsibility.
Afterall, that's what friends do.

Theo too took off after August determined to protect him from any upcoming threat.
