Chapter 13 - An unspoken disappointment.

    "Ma'am , you sure you are okay?"
           Came a different voice.

    The sudden voice made Maya look      in the direction of it's source.
   And lo! Her gaze was met by another one. It belonged to another handsome man .
  His blue eyes shimmering in the daylight and his blonde messy hair poking out through the opening near the hood.

     Maya felt like she was stabbed in the heart twice. The features of these two men were unreal and out of the imagination.
    Maya knew that if she didn't reply, she'd be considered a weirdo. As soon as she came back to her senses, she hastily answered

    " Yeah , i am fine , i am perfectly okay"
    She said while flashing an awkward smile.

    " Hmmm, good"
            The black haired male responded and straightened himself.
He then looked over to his companion and signalled him to keep continuing climbing the stairs.

     Maya felt bad for behaving like this. She felt like she owed them a proper thank you and an apology.
So she turned back only to find them walking away.
Maya really wanted to thank them so she called out to them.
  
      " Excuse me ! Mister ! "
           She ran up to them.

    " You saved me from such an embarrassment, you deserve my thanks. Thank you so much for saving my face ( literally and symbolically) .
    And also i apologize that I took away your precious time."
     Maya bowed and genuinely thanked the two gentlemen.

      " It's okay , it's our job to save the weak. Besides you should walk with your eyes stable otherwise you'll keep creating problems for others in future."

      Maya could not believe her ears.
What did this man mean by ' weak'?
More importantly what is he implying by problems for others in future?
Her eye twitched at his words.

     Was he looking down on her? This guy was surely looking for a fight.
    Maya was seriously pissed off. Just because he saved her and she was thankful, did he think he was the king himself or something?

     Maya wanted to verbally thrash him then and there but decided otherwise. Her lashing out at him would only draw attention and she didn't want to make a scene.
     All she could do was stare at their disappearing figures. All that stuff just put her in a bad mood so she went back to her lazy mode and sat on the stairs.

       When Bella returned she was surprised to see a pouty Maya lazily sprawled across the staircase.

     "Maya ! What are you doing? Get up and sit straight!"
       
    Maya lazily stood up.Her face always gave away her mood. Bella noticed Maya's bad mood but decided not to sour the situation now.

     " Hey, Did you get the job done? "
    Maya asked turning around.

     Bella giggled .
        " What do you mean job done? Yes I did get the new address and it's not far away from here so we should be fine.
    Or are you feeling unwell?"
   
    " Me? Oh nothing! Just stuff happened , nothing much."
     Maya said shaking off the topic.

   As they walked they saw men dressed in white and black on horseback riding past them.
   Some had drums with them and one person seemed to lead the group.

    " Who are these people? They really.......stand out!"
     Bella said not quite sure how to describe them.
  
    " I don't know, but must be something important. I mean marching here with horses and that clothing, seems interesting."
        Maya replied. Though she was equally clueless, she found the situation mysterious and interesting.

      Meanwhile August and Theo had already reached the balcony to observe the execution of the royal announcements.
   They had been staring down since long so Theo decided to break the silence.

       " Bro, i think you were a little too mean to the young lady back there. I mean i saw her face and she looked like she'd been thrown the most hideous insult in the world."
       Theo explained recalling Maya's disappointed and clueless face.

      " Mean? But i didn't intend to upset anyone. I just stated the truth and told her to take care
    I know my ways may seem different to her but was she any less?
I mean i saw her trying to run away from us. She was probably one of those sheltered and pampered ones."
      August replied coldly.

     " Yeah but i bet we were looking suspicious so that was probably her natural instinct you know!"
      Theo tried pressing on the topic to make him realise what he did was pretty harsh.

      " Well , look .i don't know her. But i Know that a person who jumps to conclusions and acts like a coward in such situations will never be able to live a stable life.
     She will not be able to face bigger situations in life like that. Besides i only helped her because i was closely as everyone should. So let's not talk about it now!"
      August replied making it clear he didn't want to discuss anything .

     Just then , Theo spotted Mr. Adams in the crowd.
   
      " Look !  They're here , August!"
           Theo exclaimed as he pointed it out to the raven haired boy.

       August turned to look at the crowds and fixated his eyes on the men on the horseback.
     It was happening. Soon everything would come to a halt. It's not just the death of the king but the changes that the new rule will bring along them that will affect everyone. It was a thing to be concerned about.

        As the uniquely clad men made their way into the middle of the streets , all eyes were on them.
       The long awaited announcement was moments away. Nobody knew what this announcement will bring and how their lives are going to change so differently than what they ever imagined.
