Chapter 18 - Test

After going inside and settling down, Maya chatted with Aunt Jay and Jane. When she inquired about the baby, both the ladies were more than ready to tell her everything. While talking, at one point, their conversation point shifted to Maya's new job.

" Uhm , So Auntie, i would like to know about the reason you called me here. Was it urgent? "
Maya tried to ask without sounding rude.

" Oh yes! Maya, don't you worry. The thing is that Jane is already seven months pregnant. And your uncle and brother go to their respective workplaces. I alone cannot take care of everything right? So I thought I'd ask you to come over".
Aunt Jay explained calmly.

" Oh! I see. Well that's great, isn't it?"

" Yeah, and you can even see and play with the baby after my delivery, that's if you are ready to stay."
Jane asked meekly.

" Of course! My mom sent me here with no intention of letting me back until the job is done. Besides i also really want to hold a cute baby . No way am i letting go of such an offer!"
Maya said excited.

Aunt Jay was happy seeing the two ladies get along better. Later Jane told Maya about her job and why she chose Maya as her replacement.

    " I needed someone who is mature and can understand situations. She needed to be polite and righteous when you walked in that day, i felt like you were perfect for the job "
         Jane explained her point of view.

    " Oh i promise you won't regret calling me , Sis Jane."
             Maya was happy with being called mature.

       They talked for the rest of the morning, laughing and telling each other funny stories. After settling Maya down in a room reserved for her , Jane told her to get ready.
      Maya did as told . After freshening up and dressing in a decent gown, Maya came out of her room.

     " Where are we going, Sis Jane? "
Maya asked quite confused.

     " Oh maya!  remember i told you about the necessary documentation for application? Actually i thought that the sooner it is done it would be better."
       Jane explained.

     " Okay, where do we have to go for that? "
      Maya asked , curious.

      " The palace!"

       

     And so are the two ladies ended up at the castle..

      Maya was stunned at the beauty of the castle. Never in her life had she seen something so magnificent. The gold plated walls , the lush greenery around the castle , the grand aura surrounding it - everything was so great that Maya almost fell into a trance.

        After entering the castle too Maya was quite spaced out. Just the thought of working here- maybe it wasn't too bad. She kept on squealing in happiness at every little thing.
         They went and met up with the head maid who upon seeing Jane was very glad. After her help in filling out important details for the application, she informed them about the test needed .

        " What test, Mrs. Smith?"
                  Maya asked the head maid.

      " Dear, it is a test needed to see if the lady participant is qualified enough to be an employee at the palace. "

       " ......."

      Maya was worried about all the formalities here however when the test started , Maya calmed down a bit knowing the test is for etiquette.

      Tea serving- pass
      
      Hairdressing - pass

      Behaviour - pass

      General knowledge - pass

      Cooking - pass

      Arrangement tactics- pass

      Cleaning and stitching - pass

        The head mistress was quite shocked as nobody had previously passed all the tests in one go.
      However, she soon assumed a content expression and told Maya that she could join the training from tomorrow.

     After politely taking their leave, Maya asked Jane.

      " Sis Jane, what is training for? We are in house employees right? We are not warriors so why?"
   
      " Maya, the training is for polishing your current skills to be good enough to be called a royal assistant. You need to know every aspect of home making and womanly stuff if you are going to work at the ladies chambers.
     Those who are doing really good are put in pearl batches which are to be employed next. "

    " So if i do really good, is my position fixed?"
     Asked a very excited Maya.

     " I am not so sure about that but we will see."

       While returning, they had seen a big procession upon which Jane commented that the Prince Kyle and his family were visiting for the coronation ceremony.

      Theo rushed into August's room only to find him already standing at the balcony .
A smile graced his lips as he ran towards his best friend.

       " They're here!'
  He told August who simply nodded.

        Anyone else would have mistaken this for ignorance but only Theo could see the eagerness to see his family in August's eyes.
