Not long after they sat down, a waitress came and took they're orders and then left to give them to the cook.

As they waited, small talk began to brew.

"So, Shaun," Natasha began the conversation, "where are you from?"

"Brooklyn, ma'am." The teen replied.

Instantly, Steve perked up at that and offered his hand to shake again. "Hey! A fellow  Brooklyn man."

"Yes, sir."

"You talk really well, too. Very respectful."

"That credit goes to my mom. Partially my dad too, but mostly my mom."

"Why mostly?" Nikki asked curiously, "If you dont mind me asking..."

"No, its okay.....uh," Shaun paused for a moment, almost like this was a hard question. Little did they know...it was. "Well, you see, my dad...he...he got caught in the Snap eleven years ago and it was just me and my mom."

"I'm sorry about that, son." Steve said, patting the kid on the shoulder.

"Thank you, sir. It was a tough break, being without him....especially for my mom."

"But he's back now, right?" Nikki asked, trying to make it better. "Things are better now that he's back?"

Nikki expected a nod and enthusiastic smile from Shaun, but what she got instead was a sway of the head, a shrug of the shoulders, and a look of uncertainty. "Well, yes and no."

"What do you mean?" Sam asked, curious.

"Well, we're happy he's back. But I don't think he is..."

This surprised, but also co fused Nikki. "How could he not be happy to be back?"

"Nikki," Steve said, attempting to get her to ease up a little.

But that didnt seem to stop her. "I just don't get it. I mean to be given a second chance with his family...you'd think he'd love to have that."

There was a bit of hurt coming up in her voice. Family was a touchy subject for her, as they all knew. Losing family was thought for all the them, but it was up for debate that Nikki was hurt the most during the Snap when her parents were gone.

But when they were reunited, I was "the best day of her life", as she put it. So aside from poking at some sad emotions, this genuinely confused her.

"Not everyone feels that way, honey. Some people just...feel differently." Her father explained to her. As he did, he realized how that might've sounded and turned to Shaun. "No disrespect to you or your father, Shaun."

"It's all good, Mr. Rogers. I get what your mean. And you're right too, some people definitely feel differently."

It was a quiet at the table le for a moment. None of them had anticipated the conversation to go this way.

But out of the silence, Bucky spoke up.

"It might seem a bit hard right now," He started, gaining the table's attention, "but believe me, waiting it out, trying to make it work...it's worth it. Your dad may really be happy, it just might be hard to admit that. I'm sure he'll come around soon."

"Thats gotta be the deepest, and most non grumpy thing I've ever heard you say." Sam stated to his friend.

A bit of laughter hit the table at that, especially from the grownups. Even Bucky cracked a smile at that.

"Oh my god, look! I got him to smile!" Sam teased, "History has been made!"

They all laughed more at that, even Shaun. This was a moment he was most definitely enjoying. A nice, wholesome family moment.

Soon, the laughter died down and the mood was calm and cool again.

"Thanks, Mr. Barnes." Shaun said, referring to Bucky's earlier words,  "Maybe you're right. Maybe I just have to wait...hopefully."

Already smiling, Bucky nodded and smiled a little more. "Call me Bucky, kid. I know I'm an old man, but I don't want to be reminded of it."

"Same here, pal." Steve added, "I think we can pass the last names."

Hearing this, even though he wasn't sure about it, Shaun was overwhelmed by this and thanked them. "Thank you...I appreciate it."

"Hey, welcome to the family, kid," Sam said to him, a sincere tone on his face.

And how welcome Shaun felt. This day held quite a joy-slash- blessing. New friends, and now he was being welcomed into a family. Content, overjoyed, happy. All of these explained Shaun's current mood.

Soon after, the food came. Steve had a short stack of pancakes with eggs and bacon, as did Jamie only he got sausage.

Nikki got a hobo sandwich, fruit cup and a milkshake(strawberry), while her mother got a nice bowl of oatmeal with blueberries.

Meanwhile, Sam had a bacon and egg sandwich with a side of grits, and for Bucky, a nice chicken soup. Something simple, but good.

And for Shaun, a nice smelling burger and fries. Classic. Can't beat it.

"So Shaun," Sam started after he took a bite of his sandwich, "what've you got planned today?"

"I have to take my dad to this Veteran's Assist for a session." Shaun replied, taking in one of his fries.

"Oh really? We're gonna be there too!" Jamie spoke up.

"Really?"

"Sam is one of the counselors there," Nat explained, eating a spoon of her oatmeal.

Sam nodded in agreement.  "Yeah, and my sister and her kids are gonna be there too."

"Oh, so I'll get to meet more of the family, then." Shaun said, smiling again.

"Exactly!"

"Maybe we can do something after," Jamie suggested.

"Sounds like a plan." Steve jumped in.

With smiles all around, it was settled. And the day kept getting better and better....for now.
