Sophie floated through a senseless state of oblivion.
It could have been days, or just hours, since the last time they sedated her. She wouldn't have known.
It was dark in her mind. Any sounds were drowned in thick silence. There were times when it felt like she couldn't breathe, every attempt of a breath like blades moving through her lungs in place of air. Sophie tried fighting against the drug, but it had already drained her of all energy, and the useless strain made it worse.
And then there were times where she wondered if she was still breathing. Was she alive? Dead? Somewhere in between? There was no way to know. If being dead felt like this then she didn't want to die.
It was the most awful kind of torture.
A migraine kept coming back to her, with agonizingly strong pain. She wished she could rub her temples to try and ease the ache, but even unconscious, she remembered that her hands and feet were bound.
There was so much anger coursing through her. And sadness. And hurt.
She wondered if the drug was somehow making her emotions even crazier. Or if they'd given her too much.
But she couldn't be dead. If she was dead, how could she have so many thoughts running through her mind?
Then her memories of before she was kidnapped flashed across the darkness
Keefe.
Even though it had been from a distance, she knew it was him. And she hated that even the thought of him made it feel like she was being torn apart in every direction. Sophie started drowning in an icy wave of regret when she realized she might never see him again. If she didn't make it out of here, there were so many things she never got to tell him.
She plunged deeper into the darkness. Her mind went blank.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Nothing.
Then sounds.
Voices at the edge of her mind, calling her name. A wave of energy came rushing towards her, blue and green in all its glory. The breezes lifted her up, towards the surface, away from the abyss of darkness. Light rimmed in the corners of her eyes, at first small specks that continued growing larger.
Sophie felt herself waking as someone lifted her from the cold ground and cut away her bonds.
✿✿✿
Keefe didn't know how long he was out.
But the first thing that came back to him were sounds. Someone whispering, cursing, stamping their feet.
He felt himself lying on the ground; icy cold stone like the rest of the base. At first, everything was black, but a small white circle that appeared in the middle of his vision started to slowly expand, bringing him closer to consciousness.
Someone slapped him.
That woke him up.
Keefe's eyes snapped open and instinctively he scooted away from whoever had hit him. He was half expecting to be blinded by bright lights since he just came from complete blackness, but the room was dimly lit.
Everything was blurry at first. Keefe was disoriented, and the feeling of vertigo only worsened when the memory of what got him in this predicament came back to him.
A voice let out a relieved sigh. "Finally. Now stand up."
Keefe squinted and saw Evren standing in front of him, her arms crossed and staring down. They were in a small room—clearly some sort of cell. The walls and floors were made from grey stone, the door metal with a small slit for eyes.
