Chapter 12

Y/n's POV
We made it into the apartment building just as frozen rain started to fall. I immediately set in motion a plan of action. Knowing that the little space heater we had wouldn't be enough to keep us warm, I had Tubbo and Tommy drag up a steel barrel to make a fire pit out of. I took a wheel barrel that we had found and went to grab as much dryish wood as I could before the ice covers all of it.

Once I made it back with sufficient wood, I immediately changed from my soaking wet cloths into one of my spare suits. I walked into the sleeping area and went to warm my hands by the fire that one of the guys had managed to make while I was out.

Ranboo's POV:
I was relieved when y/n walked through the door, carrying a bundle of sticks for the fire. The weather had started to get bad while they where out, and I was worried they wouldn't make it back. I had already had the guys go down stairs and get the rest of the wood while i heated up a couple of cans of soup for the four of us, on the camping stove.

Y/n had gone to change out of her damp cloths a bit ago. She walked out of one of the bed rooms in a dry suit of cloths, immediately making her way to the makeshift fire pit. I saw her shiver so I scooped some soup into a cup and made my way over to her.

"Here have some f/s soup." I offer her the cup. She gratefully takes the cup saying a small 'thank you', before clutching onto the cup for more warmth. Another shiver wracks her body as I make my way over to the sleeping area to grab a blanket for her.

I draped the blanket over her shoulders before wrapping the rest of it around her, making sure she was nice and tucked in, before I turned to go and help Tommy and Tubbo with the wood. As I turned to leave y/n spoke, making me stop.

"Thank you Ranboo, you're a good person." She smiles as me before taking a sip of her soup. A flurry of butterflies filled my stomach at the compliment.

"I try, now eat your soup and warm up." I smile before making my way out the door. My arm still hurt to move to much but I still had the other one working so I will do what I can.

After about 20 minutes we had all of the wood that y/n had gathered in the apartment and ready to use when needed. We all are set around the fire pit trying to stay warm as the sound of he frozen rain hitting the windows and roof filled the silence.

Y/n's POV:

The sound of the frozen rain hitting the windows and roof fills the silence. Tommy has fallen asleep, letting out soft snores. I get up and cover him with the blanket that had fallen off of him when he fell asleep. Tubbo had gotten up to grab some more wood to fuel the fire. Tommy's curly blonde hair falls across his face as he subconsciously snuggles into the blanket. I stand up smiling as I head to get my first aid kit, before walking over to Ranboo who was sitting against his backpack reading a book he had found in one of rooms. His grey eyes met mine as I walk up and sit beside him. He marks his place before closing the book and shrugging the hoodie I lent him off so that I could clean and doctor his arm.

"How bad does it hurt?" I ask softly not wanting to wake Tommy.

"It doesn't hurt to bad unless I bump it." He responds as I start to untie the old bandages. I check the site for infection before begin cleaning it. I'm wiping away excess rubbing alcohol when I feel Ranboo's eyes studying me as I work.

"Whatcha starin at sir?" I ask cocking an eyebrow at him. He flashes me that smile of his and his cheeks flush a bit before he looks away.

"I don't know, it's just these last few days has been the happiest any of us have been in a while." He shrugs looking down at what I was doing. "It's been a while since we had seen anyone but each other, and to be honest I'm surprised that we have survived this long on our own. Hell, the first year of this shit we were all constantly on the verge of dying."

"Well I'm glad that you have survived this long. I hope we all have many more years to come." I smile at him as I place a piece of antiseptic ointment covered sterol gauze on the gash. I have Ranboo hold the one end of the ace bandage that I had found, as I start to wrap his arm.

"Me too." He looks down solemnly, " I just hope that once we get to clay's we can be safe again, not having to worry about each other so much or being turned." I nod in agreement.

"We still have some ways to go but once the roads clear enough for me to drive us there safely we will be well on our way to achieving that. Once the storm stops I'll be able to give a rough estimate of how long it will take to be able to leave." I babble as I began to pack the first aid materials up again. He nods while yawning. We had moved the sleeping area closer to the fire pit so that we could stay warm. Tubbo had fallen asleep on the same mattress as Tommy did while I was doctoring Ranboo's arm.

"Why don't you go to sleep for a bit? I'll wake you up when it's your turn for watch." He shakes his head at me.

"Nah, I'm good I don't want to leave you up on your own." I roll my eyes and plop down on our shared mattress.

"I'll be fine I've got plenty to keep me busy until next watch. Now lay down and go to sleep, you are still healing." I say reaching up and grabbing his uninjured arm, pulling him down to the mattress beside me.

"Fine but the moment you feel tired wake me up." He relents as he settles into bed and snuggles underneath the blankets. I lean back against my backpack, deep in thought until the next watch came and I had to wake Tommy, since he had slept the longest.
